I was given this, unseen, from a dark shed on a dark evening. I knew it was all chrome (and rust).

I get it home and am almost speechless.

The wheels are steel/ aluminium Campagnolo with the straight QR levers on Fiamme tub rims, 40/32 with an Atom 5spd

GB 'spearpoint' Kromo stem, GB Ventoux 'Map of Britain' bars

Lyotard Berthet pedals on Stronglight Competition cranks (flaky chrome!)

Blumells guards.

The frame has surface rust but is very sound. There are oilers on the BB but the pump pegs have been filed off. Top tube has come up nice already after a brass wire brush and a bit of Autosol.

The tubes are thin walled so with the Nervex lugs, it should be something interesting?

Lots of pics, the stays should give someone a clue.

Hmmm...

Anyway, squirrelled away I have a 1950's Campagnolo Gran Sport rear mech and matching shift lever, ideal for this.

Will go hipster style with brown bar tape and saddle with some new Vittoria tubs when the RB tokens have been topped up again.

Looks to me mid to late 50s, nearer mid than late, obviously class frame. The fork crown looks like a Nervex Pro pressed and welded, very strong but rarely used, might be a clue there. You can tell with a quick look under the crown. pic not quite clear enough.

Looks like the early Nervex Pro set with the Nervex crown.
I see the Brampton headset has a better top lock nut, essential because of poor design of the screwed race, the thread being so far above the ball track that they used to loosen and destroy the fork column threads.

Anyone with a simple workshop and access to suitable heat could have built this, many did not need jigs, just some skill and simple measurments.
