A lovely renovation, sympathetically done. The wooden rims look fantastic. The photo of the bike in action in a grass track event is very interesting, showing tape put around the wheel rim and tyre at several places to help prevent the tub rolling off. Back in the 60s I heard from older club members of this being done in the past.

Beautiful bit of machinery! I often keep an eye out for any of the handbuilt South London frames but they rarely surface. Presumably this was built to order (and to measure) for John Cooke? Any idea how much he paid for it back in the day, how much he earned back then and how he paid for it?

Thanks for the posts both - John got it second hand so it wasn't made for him - One owner before him though but unfortunately no details.

John told me about tape on the tubs for extra security but I hadn't heard of it before - You can certainly understand why on what must have been rough grassy playing fields not to mention some the cornering.

The catalogue says that the standard bike build was £ 11 11 0 but £12 10 0 with Chater Lea and £13 10 0 with BSA.

I only know of one other The David but there must be more around. I'd be interested to hear if anyone does know of any others?
