Right RetroBIKE chums, last weekend I bought Russboy’s Alpinestars Cro-Mega LX

http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=76269

When I when I collected it, it was immediately apparent that it was too small for me, but I thought what the heck, the wife could do with a retro-bike. I proudly took it home, but when she tried it, it was too big! I’m 5’10” and my wife is 5’2” so I’m guessing that it’d fit someone in the region of 5’4”- 5’8”. The frame measures 16.5” from the centre of the BB to the top of the seat clamp.

In order to get it fully functioning it’ll need the derailleur hanger straightening, a new rear derailleur (I have an original-fitment 500LX in the shed), the rear wheel truing and a set of gear cable inners. I really can’t be arsed to fix it as I’ll never be able ride it  , so here’s your chance to get a bargain. If nobody wants it, I’ll sort everything out and it’ll end up on eBay for approx £100, or it’ll be cannibalized for the gears and brakes and sold on. BUT, I’d rather swap it for:

1. Ladies hybrid / mtb with a 14-15” frame - comfort stylee
2. An interesting retro mountain bike that’s about 18-19”
3. Retro parts ‘n’ stuff
4. Modern, but pre-shadow XT or XTR stuff
5. A new Ritchey WCS Marathon Ti saddle
6. A 19” Alpinestars Cro-Mega

So, what have you got? Send me a PM with your swaps and I’ll get back to you. I’m happy to top-up the deal with cash if required.

The bike is pick-up only from Twyford, just outside Reading.

I have a DB Apex 1991 red with black splatters in 19" , would you be looking for a complete swap or F&F + essentials ??

Let me know if interested and I can get some pics up

Cheers

Well,. it'd be a shame to split it, it even has the original tyres!

Yep, TKO's if I remember right? Quite a rarity in themselves as they were pretty cack and most folk switched them pretty quickly :)

Quite right, possibly the worst mtb tyres ever. But nice to see a pair after all these years.

'ere, now then, I'm trying to sell this bike, stop knocking it! :x

I might put the tyres on the Kona, just to see how bad they are: worse than porcupines or the standard fitment tyres to my 1988 Muddy Fox? :?

Sorry fella, not knocking it, the bike looks in really good nick - just amazed to see the original alpinestars tyres

You've a point about porcs and late 80's tyres as well though
