    Screw on freehubs

I would have posted a photo with the freewheel removed except I’ve just discovered I’ve misplaced the correct removal tool. Also, SJS Cycles appears to have stopped stocking these. It’s an IRD Cyclone Mark 1. I have read about people having issues with them but mine’s been fine. My rear hub is...

    Screw on freehubs

I’ve got a reasonably nice screw on freewheel on my Hope Titanium hub. It’s an IRD. I think it’s a 13-32 7 speed. It uses the same splined Shimano tool to fit/remove as the lock ring on a cassette. I bought it from SJS Cycles. It wasn’t cheap but so far seams decent quality. I’ll take a photo...

    Wanted Early Nineties Grips

Thanks both. The ODIs look like a good option for something that looks right and is useable for reasonable money. Much appreciated. 👍

    Wanted Early Nineties Grips

I’m racking my brain trying to think of some early nineties grips that would be suitable for my bike. I’ve currently got a pair of modern grips I bought from my local bike shop but I’m now starting to nit pick at the finer details with my bike and I just want to try and get the little details...

    How accurate are catalogs?

I remember having a Giant Cadex ALM 1 back in around 1993ish that was supposed to be a mix of Exage and Deore LX. When the bike shop got it out of the box it had a full Deore LX groupset (no Exage parts). I remember being well happy with that.

    Wheel building

And I’ve just seen how much money people are asking for it online. It’s a good book but not 100 to 200 quids worth of good. I bought mine a long time ago for an awful lot less. Perhaps I’ll look after it a bit better now.

    Wheel building

I’m a bit late to the party on this thread but this is my go to reference for wheel building.

    What headset do I need?

Forgot to say you may need to check thread pitch as others have said there are a couple of different standards.

    What headset do I need?

That looks like a threaded steerer. Stack height (including a cable hanger if used) is the main consideration. I used a new 1 inch threaded IRD headset on my bike. It seems to be decent quality so far. Bought online from SJS Cycles.

    199? (LA Cycles) Lee Cooper

I thought I’d add something onto this thread as I’ve completed a few little jobs over the last few weeks. The main one being a rebuild / refurbishment of the forks. They felt pretty bad on the descents so I bought some new elastomers. This improved them but the front end has always felt just...

Wanted Early Pace RC35 Forks for Spares

Thanks. I’d take you up on that but I’ve bought some from Kult Friction so I should be sorted. Cheers

Wanted Early Pace RC35 Forks for Spares

Hi, I’m looking for a pair of the earlier type Pace RC35 forks with the single tubular steel type brace, not the later MXCD type with front and rear braces. Condition is not a major issue as long as the stanchions and lower legs are straight. Reason being something doesn’t feel quite right with...

ITM Krystal Stem on Mountain Bike?

Thanks. I ended up buying an Ibis Titanium stem. I might keep one of these in mind for a future build though.

Any love for the old Carrera’s here?

That Corsa takes me back. I had one of those off my parents as a Christmas present back in about 1990. The one in the Halfords shop was a previous year’s model with a 531 frame and Ultegra groupset up for £400 instead of £600. One of the cable guides had broken off the 531 frame though so the...

    Reviving elastomers in a microwave!?!?

As I’m waiting for delivery of some new elastomers for my forks and the old ones are knackered, I decided to experiment to see if the old ones could be revived. Not sure if this will work but hopefully the linked YouTube clip gives an idea of how it went. It’s nothing dodgy, just a clip of the...

Removal of Seized Stroke Adjusting Screw of Rear Derailleur

The only other thing I can think of, other than everything that’s been suggested so far, is a suitable size drill with a left hand flute and run the drill in reverse. Problem with that is it’s tricky due to the small diameter of the screw and if it doesn’t work you’re probably only then left...

    Pace RC35 Elastomers

Thanks. Just looked on their website and they’ve only got soft or extra hard available. Being fairly middle of the road weight wise at between 70-75kg depending on how much I’ve been riding, I’m guessing I probably need medium hardness elastomers. Thanks for the info though. I wasn’t sure if...

    Pace RC35 Elastomers

The front end of my bike has been feeling pretty rubbish to be blunt so I decided to strip the Pace RC35s I fitted but didn’t refurbish in my excitement to get the bike built. As it’s a bit damp and drizzly outside I thought I’d take a look inside and the result is in the attached photo. From...

    Audi Quattro R2

I’ve never heard of Titanal before. I’d try googling it but I dread to think what it’d turn up. Nice looking frame though even if from the sound of it, it was a flawed manufacturing process.
