So the Airlock sealant is isnstalled. I went with 3 oz. dose. They say it coats the inside of the tube to prevent leaking down. I injected it into the new tube, and coated The whole inside. They also say it doesn't "puddle". I found that after a month the Latex tube was sticking to the inside...

OK I guess i should clarify why I'm interested in doing this project. There are 2 things about the Rene Herse Extralight tires. Light weight is of course a given, and simple enough to understand and measure. TPU tubes can be used if that is the only goal. I have one in the front tire that's...

So what I've learned so far from this- 1- The foaming action of the Caffelatex had some value by coating the whole inside of the Latex tube every ride, air loss was at a a manageable level. I'm not aware of any other foaming sealant. 2- The Caffelatex destroyed every Latex tube I used it in...

Specialized Airlock is another Glycol based sealant. This may be easier to find in some places than the rather obscure Flat Attack product. I think there is a newer version. https://www.specialized.com/us/en/2bliss-ready-tire-sealant/p/159088?color=239114-159088

Here is some testing on this. Latex tubes actually seal quite well. All the usual suspects are there. https://www.slowtwitch.com/cycling/sealant-test-part-2/

Everything isn't as good as I thought it was. 15psi loss overnight. I guess the foaming action of the Caffelatex was worth something by coating the whole inside of the tube every ride. I think I will be trying the Glycol sealant. The mfg says it's tradeoff between dose, and flat prevention. So I...

I was away from the bike for a few weeks and tire still hasn't gone all they way flat. RH tires, RH sealant and Michelin Latex tubes is looking pretty solid. I got the Glycol sealant, but 4oz. (100+g.)per MTB tires is a deal breaker on this bike. So I'll quit while I'm ahead. Can't recommend...

That's the beauty of these tires in 2.3x 26" Not quite as tall as 700x32. I'm 71 yo. never had a mass start event. Except at every traffic light on my Ebike.

RH actually makes 700x28mm tires. In his testing they are faster than his bigger softer tires. But only on the smoothest pavement. So you can have RH hard skinny tires if that's what you want. As far as feeling the road. How does a 20 bike pileup feel because they can't stop on their skinny tires.

The Glycol sealant is proving as hard to get as the non US Michelin Aircomps. My US vendor just shipped it yesterday. I was expecting it to be here already. RH in their testing says Latex tubes are just as fast as tubelesss, and weigh about the same. MTB guys are nuts about tubeless because it...

I consult both RH, and BRR for testing. They run parallel mostly. JH uses the same hill, and in still air. His test would include Aero , weight and whatever other variables might apply. He's a racer, and he cares very much about what the clock has to say. If the Aero loss outweighed the rolling...

This is from bicyclerollingresistance.com RH 44mm tire vs. other 40mm tires. Even at low pressure the fastest tire there.. Jan Heine disagrees with their testing method. He prefers his own method, bike with rider, on an actual road (downhill). Flat and bumpy.

So 3 days in the RH sealant/Latex combo is rideable at 26psi from 40# start. The expected 4-5 psi/day loss for this setup. Not great, but not horrible either. A useful improvement in air retention, and if the link above is true as good as it gets for flat prevention and sealing. I actually...

For long rides at 71yo the Ebike is used. On my 2ndary use XC bike 500 miles might take a while. Also it's pretty gentle use in my case.

I found a discussion on this, about various sealants and latex tubes. It seems there are a few people working on this. https://forum.slowtwitch.com/t/what-sealant-are-you-using-in-your-latex-tubes-and-how-has-it-worked-for-you/759897 Caffelatex has a good rep. there, but didn't work for my...

DH racers at MTBR will never use his tires. I mean if coasting down mountains is what cycling is all about so be it. But XC racers, CX racers, and anyone using the MTB format for commuting, or touring will benefit from this. The other day I was following someone 1/2 my age on a 29" MTB. I waited...

TPU definitely holds air better. Latex is supposed to be puncture resistant But I've had a wire long enough to go through a Tannus liner on the Ebike, so now sealant and Tannus there. The RH sealant is working so far. A week from now I'll know more about the water/ Latex situation. I suppose some people may wonder why I'm doing all this. https://www.bicyclerollingresistance.com/specials/schwalbe-one-tubeless-clincher The performance of the lightest RH tires comes from being...

His tire tech is feeding back into road racing (where it came from) in larger sizes. It's probably going to do the same thing in CX, and XC as it did in Gravel Racing. I don't do any of those things. At my age (71) I don't ride fast enough for aero to be a big concern anymore. But fast rolling...
