B screw not moving jockey wheel away from cassette

Worn chains. cassettes and sprockets can change how long the chain is/was, and where it sits in the teeth. This can all add up differently over time. On my Ebike I replace chains and cassettes together as a set. A new chain by itself will skip.

B screw not moving jockey wheel away from cassette

There are some photos on this page showing how chain length moves the deraileur arm. and idler position. The last one I used a zip tie to "shorten" the chain and see what happens https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/xtr-m952-short-cage-maximum-rear-tooth-capacity.485905/page-4

B screw not moving jockey wheel away from cassette

I'm not seeing photos of it in the Big/Big gear combo. This will tell a lot about chain length. The position of the derailler arm has a lot to do with clearance. If the guide wheel is offset from the arm pivot it will move in and out from the cassette as it swings. The chain length detrmines...

B screw not moving jockey wheel away from cassette

Now that I've looked at the photos in close up, it appears that the tab the B screw goes through is bent outwards. II you bend it so it meets the dropout square on the screw will be effectively longer.. Maybe the derailleur hanger is bent. Bike shops have a tool to check for that. Why do you...

B screw not moving jockey wheel away from cassette

I would just get a longer B screw if you're satisfied everything else is correct. Maybe somebody lost one and stuck a shorter one in by mistake? Maybe the spring lost tension over time? MTB guys do this all the time to run bigger cassettes.

    Gary Fisher Marlin Advice

That looks like a steel frame in a larger size. Gary Fisher was one of the originators of mountain biking. They used to run heavy American cruiser bikes (Klunkers) with coaster brakes down mountains. They called the first race Repack because you had to remove the burnt grease form the overheated...

    Gary Fisher Marlin Advice

A little more info would help That could be anythinfgform a rigid 26 with rim brakes to a 29" disc brake bike with patented G2 geometry. Here is Bicycle Blue Book (Kelly Blue Book is a price guide US car dealers use) Find a similar Marlin and see what it's worth...

    Gary Fisher Marlin Advice

Gary Fisher was an upmarket Trek brand. GF MTB bikes tended to be mid range and up. The Marlin was offered for many years and it evolved over time. Most of them didn't come with disc brakes. Fork travel ( or rigid) and type of disc brake mounts (or lack of them) will tell you a lot. Trek/GF...

Zee M640 SS cage derailleur with 11-40t cassette

I found an NOS Prestacyle HG11 cassette in 11-42t for a discounted price on Ebay. I've seen posts at MTBR that this works with the M640 Zee on a hardtail. 1- The Zee SS cage is rated for 29t capacity, so this is only a 2t stretch there. 2- I have a 42t chainring mounted. This gets me to 1:1 low...

Change rims from 26 inch to 27 inch

I've owned this bike for 20 years. I've had 700cX32, 26x2 knobbies, 26x2 slicks, and 26x2.5" urban assault tires. Each on their owns rims with matching rotors. The tires I have now make me feel that everything else was a waste of time and money. If I still had use for Knobbies RH has that...

Change rims from 26 inch to 27 inch

JH owns a Bicycle company, and a tire company. He can run anything he wants. He wants 26". To be fair I'm in the US and so is RH Cycles, so I have no idea what his tires would cost in EU, or UK.

Change rims from 26 inch to 27 inch

You could look at the tire tech articles at Rene HERSE Cyclces. Jan Heine is a PhD scientist and does his own testing. He supports 26" at the highest levels of gravel racing and uses them on his own bike. The price of his tires is controversial, but then buying wheels, tires and brake adapters...

Upgrading from 9 to 10 speed.

SRAM did make some Shimano ratio 8,9 speed shifters. You have to watch out for those. The numbers I've seen are Sram 1:1.1, and 10,11s Shimano 1:1.13. The old Shimano (pre 10s) 2:1 was actually 1:1.7. There may be some oddball Shimano road stuff that's different, and CUES doesn't match either...

Wanting to avoid pitfalls of modern tyres on 90's Trek

FWIW Panaracer makes the Rene HERSE gravel racing tires to their specs. The RH handmade Extralight knobby is probably the fastest and lightest all-road tire out there. But the price is a legitimate issue for many people. RH claims it rolls just as fast as their slicks, which I can tell you is...

Wanting to avoid pitfalls of modern tyres on 90's Trek

Modern tires will upgrade that bike immensely. I was going to suggest Rene HERSE Extralight tires. But the Scwhalbe Billy Bonkers is hitting the weight target (490g knobby) for much less money. There is also a 26x2.00 version with reflective side walls. This may be required in some places. But...

Upgrading from 9 to 10 speed.

Shimano 10s,11s use the same cable pull ratio as SRAM 8,9,10,11s. This opens up some gripshift options. I used a Shimano Zee M640 SS cage mech., 11s 11-40 cassette, and SRAM NX gripshifter. Worked great. This was a 1x conversion. SLX mid cage works also with 2x10 an option.

    Latex inner tubes updated

I'm going to put the problem tube on a spare rim and tire and see if I can figure out what's going on.

    Latex inner tubes updated

I pulled the tire off expecting to find something I had done wrong, like not using talcum powder, or pinched the tube somewhere. I found nothing. No leak in the tube at any pressure I could put in a bare tube. Submerged it in soapy water, stretched the tube to see if the hole would open up...

    Latex inner tubes updated

I got my spare Michelin Latex tubes in a couple days ago (not sold in US). The riding has been great with this setup. Fast rolling and very plush. But yesterday when I aired up before my ride the rear was 2 PSI lower than the front. A little strange since I had offset the pressure 34r/30f. This...
