Metallic gold Specialized Stumpjumper 1998 nitanium. Query!

I could be wrong, but I think the Nitanium Rockhopper and Stumpy frames were only sold in 1997 and 1998.

    Help identifying possible Stumpy

Bombers are open bath coil forks. The sound is normal, and you could run them as is, but I would highly recommend servicing them first to extend their already stupidly long lifespan. It’s dead simple and if you’re creative with the way you press in the new seals, requires no special tools. Yours...

    Help identifying possible Stumpy

That’s no Specialized! It’s an early-mid 1990s aluminum frame of unknown origin. Aluminum and M2 Stumpies, Hardrocks and Rockhoppers never came with those dropouts or a canti stop. It reminds me of mid 90’s aluminum Fishers, but I doubt it is one. Not a C’dale for sure.

The FSX forks?! Heck yeah! The bikes… well, yours is a bit rough, but being an S-Works increases its value substantially, and it’s got some sweet parts on it. If you wanna sell it, throw it up locally for about $350, or 280 pounds .07 ounces (or however British money works). Or mail it to me for...

The original fork would have been a Judy FSX Carbon which came with the frame. It is a 1995 M2 Super. Thank you!

Another thing to note here is that the fork is a 1993 model Future Shock, and appears to be 1” threadless. It would have likely come with a steel or aluminum (Kinesis?) rigid fork, or maybe an early prototype of the 1992 Future Shock (like the black/orange/yellow one shown in a catalog). My...

Not original, but old style decals — makes me think someone has mixed OEM decals from different years, or an eBay edition sticker pack. TT and DT logos are correct font but wrong proportion. Chainstay M2 logo is the 94+ type, not the fancy military font logo that it originally had. I wouldn’t...

Wow, what an example and story! It is indeed a 1991 model M2, judging by the riveted cable guides. You should build it up to look pretty — it’s a rare beast! I have never heard of this version, so thank you for the information!

How sweet! I think the metallic paint gives it away as a 1998.

JEALOUS of that build. Way too small though… I think 98 but my brain might not be working right now

This is the brochure for those first bikes, and it depicts a M2 Team with riveted cable guides and 1991-style decals - but since the 1991 Team is an entirely separate model, it could only be a 1992.

Wow! That’s one of the first 500 Team Edition M2’s. It should be a 1992. I am still not sure what is different between these first 500 and the later 1992 Team’s, but the cable guides on the earlier ones are riveted, like a 1991 (which would be consistent with the 1991 SN). That build is clean too!

    Specialized Stumpjumper Mystery Model

Original bike: I vote for 1990-91 Stumpy Team. S-Works began production in 1991 and were markedly different, I believe most used the prettier vertical dropouts that were only introduced to the regular Stumpjumper lineup in mid-late 1992. This still has the older dropouts, penning it as being...

The crankset and seat/post would have been original. The bike came with a threaded headset. It’s a 1992 S-Works M2 Team.

Hi BCNBiker, It appears you have a 1992 or 1993 M2 Team. Is the seat collar rounded or does it have sharp edges?
