You can easily stretch out the rear. I did it on mine. Its amazing how much steel will take. A length if threaded rod with 2 large washers and nuts. Gently wind out the rear end. Keep releasing and checking measurement. Avoid stressing the gear hanger and finally check wheel alignment.

I am converting 1996 Peugeot hybrid to a single speed. The specs are: 700c wheels MAVIC cassette with Halo Fat Foot sprocket 17t 68mm bb shell Campagnolo Chorus Cranks (172.5) with 43t ring on the outside. Would a 111mm axle length be about right?

Excellent. I bought a Roy Thame 4 years ago. He built the Holdsworth team bikes. My frame set turned out to be a special order tube set for Ciöcc cycles. When Ciöcc got sold on Giovanni Pelizzoli, the founder, passed on some of the tube sets to Roy Thame. Research is half the fun of a build.

I've ordered a ZTTO tensioner to try out. The half link method sounds good except I'll be running an Izumi 'jet black' chain which has gold pins. Where would I get a march for that 1/2"? Ive had ZTTO bits before. Made somewhere in China, but the CNC work looks good. Can't get any other colour...

I love all things Mavic. The 577 hubs are my all time favourite bike part. A very kind ebayer just sold me a 571 rear hub with the impossible to find Hyperglide cassette body on it. Just beautiful.
