Haha no worries and thanks anyway. Sorted it with a surprisingly good value-for-money Sunrace R80 chainset that even came with spare rings. Cheers!

    1999 Marin Mount Vision Pro

Re: "Busy couple of weeks"? Hahaha, that's a bit of an understatement! Congratulations. I wonder if Jon Whyte ever envisaged such an interpretation of his lovely X-frame design. Outstanding, young man, outstanding. Only one problem - it's too clean!

    Dear Halfords

Re: Re: I meant me! My point is this: you addressed your post/letter "Dear Halford's"; you could justifiably have entitled it "Dear Asda, Tesco, Toys'R'Us, Go Outdoors, Argos, Sports Direct, JW Sports, Amazon, Machine Mart, eBay and others selling budget bikes for the masses". Instead you...

    Dear Halfords

Re: Re: I assumed nothing - I merely imagined what I'd do/think if I ran/owned/worked in a bike shop. I find that hard to believe. Worn pads? So at least the brakes have been working! Why? Why not use budget parts, Madison, Clarkes? It's like icing a turd! And who assembled it - grandad...

    Dear Halfords

Pfft. You need to get over yourself mate. Firstly, why are you complaining? If I had a little independent bike shop doing repairs and servicing for the bike-ignorant masses, I would be saying "Thank you!" to Halfords. Secondly, Halford's are the least of your worries - why pick on them? You've...

    ICONOCLASSIC 2015 AFTERMATH

Re: ICONOCLASSIC - UK'S LARGEST DISPLAY OF PRE-'95 MTBS! I completely agree. While I don't personally subscribe to the priceless to the point of being unrideable school of thought, I was in as much awe as anyone looking at, for example, the Trimble on whites or the red anodised Pace. I prefer...

    ICONOCLASSIC 2015 AFTERMATH

Re: Can we have a caption competition for this one? I'll start: Harry Crumb: "Rampy, do you know a fork brace when you see one?" Rampage: "You hum it Harry, I'll soon catch on." Sorry, I'll get me coat.

    Show us your (Marin) Boingers!

My thoughts exactly! I fell in love with Marin's (Whyte's?) X-frame years ago - there's something just right about it. And it influenced a couple on here. I think every shed should have one in it but I'm also keen on trying the later developments although they're not nearly as lovely.
