    Loch Katrine Loop

If you don't mind some on-road bits I can heartily commend the Round-Loch-Katrine-and-Ben-Venue-with-excursion-to-Inversnaid route...

    And today I did......

This weekend I finally got around to trying to repair my damaged carbon road bike- a Planet X RT-57 full carbon bike I got under the bike to work scheme in 2012, as obviously none of my other bikes were suitable to coast the half mile down the road every day. Tragically it fell over in the...

    And today I did......

Re: campagability As long as you keep an eye on chain widths and cable pulls you can get off with mixing things up pretty well. My LeJOG bike is essentially Campag, with Veloce ErgoPower brifters and a Xenon 9 speed longcage rear mech, but with a Stronglight triple chainset and Shimano top pull...

    And today I did......

Re: That's a great score Jamie! I think I'm two/three groupsets lower on my 2004 roadbike and all of that still works great. Treat it to genuine Campag cables!

Come on, let's drag our old bikes the length of the country

Re: I did Stornoway to Barra over two days back in 2013, and enjoyed it although the face wind that you couldn't turn away from was a killer. And I got soaked to the extent that I had to put the clothes that had been soaked earlier back on as they were still drier than my newly wet clothes...

Cheers Jamie, much appreciated. I was enjoying your pictures of the frozen River Thurso earlier, and was wondering if the tree lined avenue is the one to Ackergill Tower. We stayed there in the tree house, loved it and were determined to go back sometime, the week before the place closed forever :-(

Come on, let's drag our old bikes the length of the country

I'd forgotten this thread! The postcript is that I did do the LEJoG in 2015, on a road bike, unsupported, using the Cicerone route, and took 13 days. In ten days on a mountain bike? I wouldn't have enjoyed that, what fool suggested it?

Hey! I'm back from the dead, without actually having been dead. Apologies to anybody who is dead. Bike building has taken a back seat for a while (9 years?!), but I'm feeling twitchy again, and pining for an adventure, and to commune with the clan. Here's a picture from Orkney on Sunday...

    And today I did......

Hey, you guys are still here, fantastic! After 5 years of reduced cycling (apart from finally doing my LEJoG in 2015) due to running Orkney, I'm looking to a comeback in 2017. Older, heavier and slower though, any Pie Shop trails planned? Cheers Steven

Proposal for Summer Epic - Strathpeffer and Contin Area

I'm sure you're still a Shetlander... I was up in Lerwick on Sunday and Monday, it was surprisingly quiet given the harbour is full of huge accommodation barges. The Lounge was empty! Cheers Steven

Proposal for Summer Epic - Strathpeffer and Contin Area

That's very good of you Jamie, hope to take you up on it sometime. Know where you are, I've cycled around there and out to the lighthouse to kill time waiting for the ferry in the past. Cheers Steven

Proposal for Summer Epic - Strathpeffer and Contin Area

Strathpeffer's still a bit far south for me boys, but prepared to give it a go, especially if I could cycle off the ferry from Orkney and scrounge a lift with Jamie (sharing fuel costs of course)! Are you in the Castletown area Jamie? Cheers Steven

Spring Epic - Sunday 13th April, Glen Clova (PLUS Mt Keen)

Re: Spring Epic - Sunday 13th April, Glen Doll / Clova Mmmm, I should be down in Edinburgh on the Friday, I could pick up my spare Tufftrax with the manifestly unsuitable tyres and blag a lift up. Getting back to Edinburgh by Sunday night might be a bit optimistic though. And I am somewhat...

    And today I did......

Bought one of these today: http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/CBPXRT57RIV/planet_x_rt_57_sram_rival_road_bike I concede it is not retro. But the lure of the Cycle to Work scheme finally got me. Cheers Steven

Struggling to stay motivated or is it just me?

Weather has been super-pish, so I identify with the moroseness. However, latterly I've started using Endomondo on the newly upgraded council Blackberry, which a) makes me a bit fonder of the ball and chain that it is, and b) drives me out even in the relentless NW winds we've had for the...

    And today I did......

I'm going to have to tilt the bars down a bit for aesthetic reasons, it bugs me when I look at it. Take your point about the bar tape Rob. I agonised but thought black bar tape would be too much (unless I had red hoods... hmm), and thought the chances of a matching red tape would be rather...

    Roadie outing - 28th October - APPROX 60 MILES!

Aahhhh, oldest YEW... :-) Funny you should mention it, about halfway down the glen (Glen Lyon) I almost had a header with a BMW which I met on a corner.
