    Trek 950 1996

Re: I thought I'd update my thread with some pictures of my upgrades. I haven't done anything regarding my original plan for suspension forks, I'm still considering making the change but not 100% convinced at the moment. I've fitted the T780 Deore XT V brakes and M739 Deore XT integrated...

Worn IG Chain - replacement options

I'd just thought I'd feedback the outcome. I got a new SRAM PG850 Cassette and PC850 Chain, fitted my NOS Deore LX M569 Chainset and it rides perfectly. Thanks for your input

Worn IG Chain - replacement options

Re: Thanks for the pointers guys, and the offer Tad. I'll grab one of the SRAM ones. I'll get a new cassette too, even though it doesn't look too worn, with pressure on the peddles you can see the chain start to lift out of the teeth. The chain rings are nearly new so they're fine. Tad I'll...

Worn IG Chain - replacement options

I've been doing some research into replacing a worn IG chain on my Trek 930. It has HG70-I Cassette IG70 Chain M569 Chain set I've seen the IG chain's on eBay but also read about their questionable origin. So ruled them out. I've also read Sheldon Brown's information on SRAM chains being...

    Trek 950 1996

Thanks, I wanted to keep the grey tyres as I felt it would quite different with normal tyres on it. The tread matches the original fronts very closely but could get one to match the rear so had to go with a matching pair.

    Trek 950 1996

Re: Thanks for the replies. I'll have a deeper look into the shocks. What ever I do will always be reversible, I won't be getting rid of any of the original components. I did think about another frame and building that with the new components but storage space is at a premium and I have...

Re: Nice, looks great. A good few of my mates had Marins, I always wanted one.

    Trek 950 1996

This is my Trek 950 1996 model which I got in 1997. It was used extensively in the late 1990's and early 2000 then was laid up in a mates garage and left for about 17 years. It's not in bad condition, it has some knocks from my use and a few from storage. The paint is pretty good but has...

V Brake fitment - Does this look right?

Re: Thanks Marc that's very good of you. Unfortunately I can't send PM's at the moment as I've not posted enough. I'm going to put a post under Readers MTB's which will get my count going. Thanks Daz

V Brake fitment - Does this look right?

Re: Thanks for the info. I was thinking about a collar to fill the void but that's a much better solution. I'll have a look and see if I can find some. Cheers

V Brake fitment - Does this look right?

Re: Thanks for all the replies. My posts are welded on, they are 21.5mm long. With a 5.5mm collar. I'll make sure the bolts are a decent length to get a good amount of thread inside the post. Thanks for clarifying the situation as I only had the originals as a point of reference. I'll get...

V Brake fitment - Does this look right?

Re: Thanks, I will do. The bolts that came with the T780's are longer than the originals. Cheers

V Brake fitment - Does this look right?

Re: Thanks for your reply. The arm slides fully on to the post and bottoms out with the pin well located in the middle hole. Thanks for letting me know about the post length also, only having the original Canti's for reference I wanted to check it was correct. Cheers

V Brake fitment - Does this look right?

Hi I wonder if I could get some opinions please? I'm looking at updating my 1996 Trek 950 from STX canti's to V Brakes. Higher models in the Trek range featured V Brakes so I thought the brake fittings would be a straight swap. However the V Brakes don't fit as I would have expected. Firstly...
