Wanted: Hope C2 OPEN Caliper Seals

The open system does not have the adjuster assembly that the closed system has. Get your point about keeping it flat... might be difficult.

I'd also have to replace the lever master cylinder as the closed and open are different. I hadn't thought about machining.... that may be worth looking into... might be expensive though? I wonder if the 0.14mm could be removed from width of the seal with wen and dry on a flat surface? I had a...

Re: Re: Yes looking at the chart, the seals shown for trial and c2 are slightly different widths (0.4mm). So if that is too much to be compatible, that strengthens my feeling that the 3mm width I'm looking for is never going to work with a 2mm or 2.4mm width seal even if the 25mm id reduces...

So I presume that is saying that the 'trials' and C2 Closed can both use a 25mm id seal. But leaves the C2 Open still unresolved?

Hi Dyna-Ti - thanks for your reply. Whilst I agree that 0.06 or 0.07 of a mm (I assume you didn't mean mill as in american 1/1000 inch) is not very much at all and falls inside tollerances, surely the piston should be a fairly tight fit and stretch the rubber a little to ensure it seals? In...

Wanted: Hope C2 OPEN Caliper Seals

Re: Yes, that's the size (as best I can measure) of the C2 (closed) kit I bought.... fitted my backn brake perfectly, But OPEN piston is slightly smaller and the seals a larger cross-section... more like 24x3x3 And I agree its HBSP86 I need (or kit HBSPC41:O2) :(

Wanted: Hope C2 OPEN Caliper Seals

The seals are 3mm square cross-section, and look like EPDM material. The two pistons are 24.95mm and 24.93mm diameter respectively - this would leak with a 25mm ID seal which seems to be the CLOSED C2 seal size. The old seals are hard to measure as they are 'floppy', but fit snugly over the...

Wanted: Hope C2 OPEN Caliper Seals

Re: Thanks for your reply. Sadly the kit you mention is for the CLOSED system not mu OPEN system I require HBSP C41:O2 The seal in C2 are slightly different size and leak badly. The part number for the seals on there own is HBSP86 Thanks all the same.

Wanted: Hope C2 OPEN Caliper Seals

Thanks you both. I am 100% my c2 open was square section. So was the c2 closed for that matter. These are the only bike brakes I've taken apart, but I've lost count how many car calipers I've replaced seals... and they have all been square section.

Re: Thanks for your reply RWM1962 Do you think that the old seals were square section, not standard round o-rings would be an issue? Paul
