1996 Stumpy m2 (challenging my own prejudices)

Well, eventually finished it off. Didn't entirely take to the suss fork, but its been gifted to a good home. Spent my xmas money on a P2 fork, and scratched an itch to stick a mechanical disc on the front.

    1991 (?) Jamis Dakota

Different beast, but if it helps, a 94 Dragon (TIG welded Prestige) 17" frame is 2150g, as best I can weigh it.

So, build stalled a little over Xmas and New Year as 'workshop' had to be repurposed as a bedroom  But it now has a fork very kindly gifted by slackboy (Thanks again). So, just a few little finishing bits to do, and then ride it.

That's pretty much how I feel about the Dragon.

    1991 (?) Jamis Dakota

I have 17" (or 17.5") Jamis and ride them with fairly high saddle. Probably about 27.5" from bottom bracket to top of saddle, which feels about spot on sizing (I'm 5'6"). I have a 16" Dragon too, and while rideable it's dinky and the seat post was stuck out miles. It found a purpose though as my...

Nicely dodged re. forks  I reckon we can park it and decide later. Probably will use the rd-m750, as it's the only one I found in the shed.

Had a rummage for cranks around the right age / reasonably in keeping. Would be the worst poll ever, as pretty much left with a choice between a specialized strongarm and a shimano m510. So if you're minded to call it for me ;) I think that bike would originally have had a strongarm crank...

Yes, thank you, as Mattithundrrr said. I should have paid more attention in material science. Not really studied alloy frames tbh but it does appear to have relatively small tube diameters, which is cosmetically nice. The frame is definitely growing on me ;)

Thank you. That's a super generous offer. I think I would be daft not to take you up on this and give it a whirl if that's OK please. Very much appreciated. Will pm you. I saw your post last night, but thought I ought to sleep on it before replying. I've been flip flopping around like crazy...

Yeah, clearing the attic so gave it a quick whirl on ebay, but it didn't go so decided to give it another chance of life. I originally bought it cause Id heard good things about the frame. I've got a 'few' steel bikes and thought it might add a bit of variety, but Im a little stuck in my ways...

I hadn't seen this. Have just skimmed though and it's fascinating. I will read through properly tomorrow. Thank you

Good timing you posting this 👍 Just been mocking up a rigid fork on a 96, and its easier to see if it might work looking at yours, with the colour matching the frame. https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/1996-stumpy-m2-challenging-my-own-prejudices.473588/page-2

ta, appreciated, Giving it some thought. Have a plain alloy stem somewhere. I was half eyeing these up as an easy option https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/26%E2%80%9D-spinner-forks-silver-1-1-8.473666/ but not sure. And 👍👍👍 for Duck Norris

    Specialized alu single speed

Loving it, everyone should have one or several of these. My instinct (if it's of any use / value) is that you may ultimately find it more usable with gearing around 32-17, unless super human of course. At least for a decent day out including some trails and little hills. To me, the big chain...
