    S-WORKS M2 93 FRAME QUERY??

Re: Sorry to revive a dinosaur thread but I was just researching a bike I have and stumbled on this thread. How sure are you that there was no M2 S Works for the 1993 year? I have a M2 S Works frame that I'm 99% sure is a 1993, or built in 1993 for 1994 model year maybe but it takes a 26.8...

What do you consider to be the best retro MTB stem?

    Stumpjumper production numbers

Is there any information floating around on the Web about rough or exact production numbers for certain 80s and 90s Stumpjumpers? I'm curious about exactly how rare 3 of mine are. 1985 Team pink, 1991 steel S Works and 1993 M2 S Works. I thought Ive heard before that the 91 steel S Works was...

11 speed cassette and shifter with 8 speed hub and mech?

Agreed. I run 1x10 XT or SLX on my 88 Stumpjumper, 96 Stumpjumper, 2014 Stumpjumper and 2017 Fatboy Carbon Comp. Unless you have ALOT of climbing, or alot of extra cash to blow, 1x10 is typically enough IMO. Just get the correct front ring.

Which make of MTB would be best for touring rough terain?

Re: So apparently my coworker doesn't ride his Surly across the country, he just rides that around home for whatever reason and takes his "junker" Trek on the long trips. Here are two photos of his rig from last year's trip from Minnesota to New York http://s1250.photobucket.com/user/dubya...

Which make of MTB would be best for touring rough terain?

Surly is a local company and it seems everyone owns one. 8 out of 10 are running racks, bags and or baskets. I'm not sure the exact model but my 63 year old, 350 pound (no BS) coworker rides a Surly with racks bags and a trailer. Every year he takes 4 weeks paid vacation and takes a train out...

Which make of MTB would be best for touring rough terain?

Re: It's hard to beat an early 90s Trek or Specialized, they're common enough to get them cheap and they last forever. I'd go with a 91 or 92 Stumpjumper myself as they already have the mounts you're looking for and they are a dream ride on pavement and gravel with the right tires. I picked...

WTT Suntour XC seat post binder for Shimano XT binder

I have a near perfect condition black Suntour binder I'd like to swap for a black Shimano one. I'm located in the US and would prefer a US trade but if shipping isn't too much international will probably work too. Thanks! I can't upload pics but can send via email or Facebook messenger.

    Early 90s S Works Stumpjumper

Re: I received the frame & fork late last week and built it up today. I still need to pick up a chain and a couple more cables but for now it's built up with -MT62 Deore II pedals, thumbie shifters, front mech and hubs (laced to Specialized GX23 rims) -M730 XT cranks with SG rings -M737 XT...

    Early 90s S Works Stumpjumper

Awesome, that's one of the main things I was wondering. I thought it may be the first year steel s works, thanks for confirming!

Removing original foam grips to reuse

Re: I've reused mine multiple times. I roll the inside edge of the grip inside out until they come off. As long as they didn't bake in the sun for years they'll be fine.

    Early 90s S Works Stumpjumper

I have. Unless I missed it there's nothing about S Works, or a S Works specific catalog, in the 1991 or 1992 books. I'm 99% sure it's a 91 model after receiving it today.

    Early 90s S Works Stumpjumper

Hey fellas, I recently bought a fairly clean looking S Works from a guy down south and I can't find a ton of info on it. It's been a long time coming until I found the right frame for a high end period correct build and I think this one will go XT M735, or possibly M900 if I can track...

    Suntour cassette removal

Re: That's a cassette. Having two chain whips will make easy work out of it. The smallest cog or the next one up will act as the lock ring.

Any specialized geeks that can help date this?

That's my favorite solid color! I'll probably get mine painted that color eventually but I change my mind so much it's not funny. Hopefully I can just buy an original 92 in that color. BTW, my pink/aqua 89 stumpy is dx equipped, any idea if that's base or comp? I assumed it was base because...

Any specialized geeks that can help date this?

Re: Re: If I wasn't engaged I'd tell you I love you! LOL The color is what has been totally throwing me off. I knew the M560 was a 93+ group, and 1" threaded + Tange early 90s but there are literally no other pictures of my bike I can find online. I was going to have it repainted in the...

Any specialized geeks that can help date this?

Re: Here's a link to the photobucket I started, pics are kinda spread out but it's the green one obviously. http://s1250.photobucket.com/user/dubya ... ort=3&o=18 It's a 1" threaded steerer, M560 group and either a 20" or 20.5" seat tube length.

Any specialized geeks that can help date this?

I've always heard the serial number didn't mean anything but I've had more than one early-mid 90s specialized that the number started with a 9x and it corresponded with the year. Maybe just a coincidence, who knows.
