    Kona Kapu 1997

I just came here to see where this was all at. Impeccable timing and I'm not getting alerts. A '97 Kapu owner thing? Looking forward to seeing the complete.

It's amazing how nice "even a mere Veloce" Campy headset is. So that headset is JIS in both race and cup OD? Even Tange JIS headsets used a 30.2mm OD cup (should be 30.0) and that frame's headtube (unless your's is unique) will only tolerate true JIS 30.0 OD. That Kapu was weird like that

Yeah got it, but was only curious, no real interest, plus it's a size too big. Tool is same a Park BBT-4. Search for a "6 notch campaganolo bb tool".

It's a 58cm. Alasdair, care to throw out the price your looking for on here or prefer to keep that to PM's? As I said on an earlier post somewhere: this frameset builds up better than any other 20+ yr old frameset with modern components because it actually looks like modern steel (albeit...

Frame AND forks? I figured for sure you'd be keeping that mudshark. You sourced a mudshark or similar for the green? I assume somehow you managed the former. It even has the plastic plug for the wedge bolt hole in the stem. And looks like the original Campy pedals too?

Oh yessss. Your dedication to this bike is so intense that you not pursuing it actually had me wondering. Maybe he's grown tired of the Kapu? Maybe his green project has fulfilled his wants/needs? Both were let downs and did not mimic the passion you've shown for years. When I saw the ebay...

Re: Nope. Not a 56 then. It looked like a 56, proportionally, to me. The 56 had a 58 seat tube and 155mm head tube. Ok, just based on what you said I believe that paint is original. The decals are in line with a 96. And ignore my questions via eBay.

look at that. It's a 95, 96 or 97. But 96 or 97 because the 95 had the mat finish group and the 96 and 97 had the same polished Veloce group. "NEMO" on BB shell...Alasdair? What's interesting about that one is it appears to have every stock piece from seat post to seat collar to stem to...

Re: I can't tell a dif in the color. But i know you have your doubts so i get it. For road bikes, Kona made hot rods; not race bikes. What i think is so cool about those mid/late 90's Kapus is, sure, they were skinny steel with a quill stem but, more impressive, was the taller head tube and...

I cannot believe you found one. The decals and the serial are all so 90's KONA, especially on some road frames they made only a handful of. BTW, my head tube decal appears identical to yours as it does to the one in the catalog pic. Or is there some minor difference that eludes me?

Re: 1997 Kona Kapu I've seen that '95 listed a couple times over the years the latest being that used victoria ad. Sure could use some love. Alasdair, if the desire or need to sell arises I assure you, you are first in line. And I believe links to this '96 were previously posted, but price...

Re: Shitty cloudy day pic of my '97 after only ride on it thus far this year (it's been perpetually raining in Vancouver so I opt for the roadie with fenders). Yes, Adamo saddles tilt downward a bit (mounted with rails level) but it's more optical illusion than anything as rear wheel is higher...

Re: 1997 Kona Kapu I sent you some pics directly. Serial # etc. As I say, if I come upon a 58 TT one (in any year) you'll be first to know

Re: Re: I'll do my best to get them up this weekend. In the meantime, a '96 in Seattle. He's had it listed for about two weeks and price has been dropped about $150 in that time it appears. It also appears that nothing is stock except for parts that matter: frame, fork and stem. Seat post...

Re: Re: No, it is the unicorn of which you lust after (although not sure the size you are after). A '97 56cm (58cm c-t seat tube 56cm horizontal tt) in close to perfect condition. Still has original chain (with nowhere near 0.50 wear). but not for sale!

Re: he says comes with mudshark fork but why not build it with it? My assumption is the fork pictured is what he believes is a mudshark? I'm a big fan of these bikes (save for the Deda lugged '08 and '09's). I'll post a pic of mine when I get around to it. al-onestare, you'll be pleased...
