Using grease on friction shifters doesn't sound logical, but I might give it a try.

My shimano 600 friction shifters have started to slip dramatically. It's not just a matter of cleaning them with isopropyl and adjusting the locking D ring. I think I need a new brass/copper washer or a plastic equivalent. Any ideas? Many thanks.

They are great bandon shifters, but they don't seem to fit on my braze on bosses, maybe Suntour had proprietary bosses for their shifters at the time. I have two pairs in the garage.

I've had a pair of the Dia-Compe silver shifter for a few months on one of my bike, yes, i'm impressed too, they seem to work extremely well, with plenty of cable pull. The Rivendell and the Dia-Compe silver shifters look very, very similar, I would be surprised if they are not the same product.
