Clunker Schwinn DX 1941 FINISHED page 8

Re: Schwinn DX '40 Clunker [need help page 5] Chris, specifically who brazed canti studs onto the rear? We're talking period correct here - per the OP. This means 1970's. When we peruse Alans and Charlies sites - the only bike with canti's in the rear is Alans personal bike. If you know of...

Retrofit = worst online sales experience ever

I did it because I believed that a long time member of a forum would value their reputation and ability to continue selling above treating another member like dirt. I was sort of right - but I never figured I'd have to do this. Lesson learned. :-)

I think so. I am west coast. I think he's east coast. He did send me an apology. Now I'm just waiting for my stem.

Retrofit = worst online sales experience ever

Re: I sent him PayPal as a "gift" so I can't get it back. But if showing the forum what this guy is really all about costs me $130, then so be it. The post stays up until I get my stem and an apology.

Retrofit = worst online sales experience ever

Re: Retrofit still hasn't shipped my stem, and now he's resorting to blackmail. Here's a PM from him earlier today. Buyer beware! "I was going to drop your stem off at the post office today, but one of my forum buddies brought to my attention that you left a malicious feedback comment about...

Retrofit = worst online sales experience ever

I originally posted in the "official united states sellers thread" that I needed a 1-1/4" threadless stem. Retrofit PM'd me and said he had a kooka that matched what I was looking for. I responded and asked how much. His was response "what's your budget?" I responded and said I don't...

Clunker Schwinn DX 1941 FINISHED page 8

Re: Schwinn DX '40 Clunker [need help page 5] So I went back and looked at all the bikes on Alan's site as well as Charlie kelly's site - and the only clunker that I've seen with canti's in back is Alan's personal bike. All the rest (that I've seen) either use coasters or drums. yes, there...

Clunker Schwinn DX 1941 FINISHED page 8

Re: Schwinn DX '40 Clunker [sand blasted frame pag 5] They would have used Schwinn canti's in front - when using a Schwinn fork (like you are) - or mafac canti's if using a BMX fork. They didn't run canti's in the back. They ran either coaster brakes or drum brakes. If you want it to look...

    Earlier Cannondale Super V

I have one from the very first production run - the very first year they were made. 1993 super v 3000 in silver/black with purple headset. This model is unique as it's the only model that I know of where cannondale didnt file down the welds. Also, this is the only production run where the...

1992 Boulder Intrepid Al revisited ...

I talked to Paul at Rock Lobster at length about it. He agrees that 7000 series is easier - based on simpler heat treating method - and even suggested that if I'm willing to not ride the bike for a month, that it would probably be fine to ride, sans heat treating. he said the welding rod and...

1992 Boulder Intrepid Al revisited ...

Re: Re: Got a quote from Frank The Welder to replace the head tube for $300 US. This seems very reasonable. They have a good deal on painting, too. But I was also considering polishing the frame. I may start a build thread once I figure out what I'm going to do.

1992 Boulder Intrepid Al revisited ...

Rumor has it these bikes were never heat treated - and this causes them to crack. I plan on getting this bike fixed properly. Does anyone know the validity of the heat treating rumor? And does anyone know if these are 6061 or 7005 or something else? Not sure if the frame builder I take it to...
