    Slipping Seat Post

New, 26 aluminium seat post of my '65' Bianchi keeps slipping. Several sites suggest using hairspray - can this be right ... ?!!? Should I use grease (how much?) or make a shim from an aluminium can? Retro suggestions gratefully received ---

    Brakes

Brakes - Rear brake does not work at well as the front. I've tried tightening the cable, adjusting the caliper position, reducing the cable length but nothing makes it perform better. Mechanic says the spring is tight enough; pads and cables are new ... Any suggestions?

    '65 Bianchi

New to me tubeless tires, new/old tubeless tire, aluminium rims. Caught two OBWOBs (Old Boys WithOut Bikes) in deep enchantment, ogling my ride. Both said they had 10-speeds in their youth but had abandoned them long, long ago. I recognised the look ... In dabbing daubs of fingernail polish...

Symbol stamped on bottom bracket shell

Anyone know what the heart-shaped symbol stamped in the upper right of the photo signifies? I have something similar on a Claud Butler road bicycle. Someone on another site thinks it's a Peugeot frame - wants to know which model it might be. Thank you.

    Slight skip when peddling

When peddling, as the pedal swings round and up to the top, a slight skip can be felt before it continues down and round again. Both chain wheels don't appear to be damaged and chain tension doesn't appear to be loose. The bottom bracket bearings were changed this afternoon from loose ball...

    Roundhead vs Rococo

Lovely lugs are lovely but it's plain and simple for me - Bianchi ('65) in red flake and Claud Butler ('61) in Persian Blue - no frills and (hopefully) no spills.

    Bicycle registration

What's the consensus on registering your beloved retro classic road bike? Does a prominently displayed warning notification with registration number on your frame deter the casual thief but attract those more discerning?

    Clincher vs Tubular

The new/old aluminium rims I just bought are for tubular tires. Who knew? ... certainly not the guy I bought them from and I didn't think or even know to ask. Fate decided for me but after reading a list of pros and cons - clincher vs tubular - I'd have to say I'd probably choose tubular tires...

    '65 Bianchi

The latest - and I certainly hope the last - manifestation of this bicycle. Bought a pair of used, aluminium Campagnolo racing wheels, changed the adjustable quill stem to a classic, much lighter and less clunky-looking, gooseneck shape, and put on some new brake-lever hoods. Still undecided...

    gerry burgess brakes

anyone seen this strip of metal attached to the brake lever assembly before? i assume it's there to keep the brake cable from rubbing against the metal housing of the brake lever assembly but ... wouldn't a slightly longer piece of metal tubing in the gromet at the end of the rubber cable...
