    Freehub question

Re: I'm not saying that every freehub mounting is the same, but other than some old 600AX hubs I have, all the others have been the same mounting. You just need an 8, 9 or 10 speed freehub (all the same width) and you should be good to go.

    Freehub question

I have done this exact modification. I bought a little used RS30 hub off eBay for about £6, and took the freehub off, I used the drive side cone as well, to ensure the seals would match, then re-spaced the hub to suit. The wheel did need a little more dish, but not much.

Spoke Lengths - Round Up or Down?

Re: Round down and 14mm nipples, to cover the thread, just in case they show? If it is a hollow extrusion rim I tend to round up, as the slight excess is hidden in the rim.

I didn't need to remove anything, it still had the sticker underneath, mine's a 25.4 as well.

    freehub help needed

Re: That's no freehub, it is a good old freewheel. You can rebuild it if needed, or remove what's left of it using an extractor if you are posh, or seeing as it's stripped down, gripping it in a vice and unscrewing it.

Re: I've got a 600AX stem to match the rest of the group, no bars though, except for some Cinelli ones I have spare. Pearl White is currently the favourite, but I'm not 100% yet. No rush for this one really, I've decided to finish my Vitus off first, before worrying about this one. If I'm not...

Single freewheels and 5, 6, 7 speed blocks

Re: Same thread. You might want to shift the axle spacers and redish the wheel to do it properly, but you don't have to.

The pads aren't that bad yet, although they might be a bit hard after all these years, but yes, I'll be carving up some rubber at some point. Next task is find some hoods for the levers, I think it might be a case of getting something near enough and filling the gaps in with something like No-Nails.

New-to-me Batavus Champion - first restoration job

If the rear derailleur and wheels are original, then the 6 speed block should fit, as this is what the bike would have been fitted with originally.

New-to-me Batavus Champion - first restoration job

The Adamas AX rear derailleur was one of the early Shimano indexing systems, the indexing was done in the derailleur itself and it is designed for a six speed block. Max sprocket size is 28, so a 14-28 six speed block would be the one to go for.
