One piece that a lot of people forget too, Durace shared this same design during the time. You can find a 109.5 Durace as well out there if you need one that is in good condition. A steel frame may very well be able to use the durace as it is or alternatively you can swap the axle from the 950...

Sorry, when used as a bearing press? Are you installing cartridge bearings into hubs using a quick release versus using an actual press or even a socket and hammer approach?

Buy another off ebay, they are cheap. If that doesn't work then use the freehub from a DX or LX level as a replacement. I have seen a few NOS XT replacements too but it is cheaper to just buy whole hubs.

I would agree totally with Hamster. You can get too light with some them and it will just not last. Great frames I would look for would be Bridgestones, Bianchis, Stumpjumpers, Rockies, etc. That 970 Trek you note would also be nice but they use pretty huge tubes so I don't find the ride...
