I can't make that out on my screen - i can't even tell if the frame is the same tbh! What does it say in the specs? This is the full link to where i pulled the image from, this is definitely the same frame and says (for what its worth) '05? i can't read what looks like russian but the fork is an...

GT Team Zaskar 2005 fork travel

Well I could be wrong there. I bought it frame only. The attached image shows the frame which I've pulled off google images. Can't do a link from the iPad but if you search '2005 gt zaskar team' on google images and sroll to this image then visit page you'll see it has 80mm listed I think? (Only...

GT Team Zaskar 2005 fork travel

Anybody know what the recommended travel for this frame was? I thought I remembered the info that came with the frame said 80mm but I can't confirm this anywhere. I'm moving over to a rigid fork so I need the corrected length right!

    New lacquer over old?

There are some bad chips around the chainstays and BB, I accept that these are not going to be helped by new laquer, but I was hoping the overall effect would be an improvement. I havent tried a good polish yet - I've considered it but i'm worried about either making things worse, or making...

    New lacquer over old?

Ok, slight delay there but i've uploaded some photos to my drop box - hopefully this will work, if someone can embed them within the post for me i'll be grateful! Photo 1 is the top tube - fairly typical scratching under the cables, but you can see that the gloss is all but gone. Photo 2 is...

    New lacquer over old?

    What is ball burnishing?

Thanks for tall the replies. From what i've read, forget about retrospectively ball-burnishing a bike frame!

    What is ball burnishing?

Thanks for the replies, especially the Wiki (its a pottery link BTW, but you can follow it to the metal page!) Totally diffrent to media blasting as you say. So, can it be done after a paint strip? Or you can you just strip the paint from an ally frame and polish it up, or is the surface too...

    What is ball burnishing?

Hi all, new here, been lurking while and going to dip my toes into retrobikes next year I think! I'm looking for a bit of info on ball burnishing - I presume its some kind of media blasted finish applied to bare metal to acheive the desired look, but can it be done to a painted frame? I mean...
