Wish i’d Got them now! I fitted fizik tempo Matt silver perforated tapes, with gel pads, and adjusted the bar and lever height, nos Vittoria 700 x 20’s, and swapped the pedals skewers seat and post for some lighter ones I had laying around.

I’ve got the bike now, it’s a 1993 so it will be getting tan walls. I Use kitchen oxy stain remover spray to keep the white bar tapes clean, scrub hard!

I’ve sorted this problem, it was because I had cut the chain 1 link too short. Now it’s the right length, the indexing works fine on everything on all the gears, despite it being a mucky mixture and the rear mech supposedly 6 speed friction only!

On the 80’s 501’s i’m not 100% sure but the year should be the third number in (like on a 531), but they are usually all numbers, no letters. Normally the frame number is obscured by the cable guide. My Kellogg’s number is 9*897 and it’s deffo a 1988 bike, with the later stuck-on badge, which...
