Your favorite action shots (of yourself...)

going way back to 1988... back when you could actually ride New Forest singletrack without being threatened with fines and bikes were a novelty to other users. quality Ron Hill tracksters...and a second hand helmet.

    A Couple of Happy Hours

great reminder before i left blighty i decided i really ought to have a crack at the south downs way, so without much of a plan i got up early one Sunday caught the train out of London and started pedalling...gorgeous day, probably too hot, but who cared. Kept pedalling, the day disappeared...

Alpinestars can you tell me more about this bike?

can't be too many of these in NZ it's come up for auction before, but i think they want (relatively speaking) quite a lot for it. Damn rare tho and if you are short like me pretty tempting...but i promise not to snipe you ;-) i decided to hold out for a real carbon trimble instead

Pauls stuff - loadsa new gear!

paul's thumbies setup hey - i too thought i'd made an expensive mistake, but some experimentation and heavy google action and i got it sorted in the end. Mine are 9 speed, but when I first set them up I had a few index clicks in the high gears and then this weird long through no click thing...

Chris King threaded to ahead 1" converter

from the title it sounds like you have a CK inch threaded and want to convert to CK inch threadless? i did this a number of years ago, basically the CK kit just comes with a new top cap/bolt/starnut and a new bearing cap for the headset to replace the integrated threaded bearing cap/nut...

    Show me your 2X9 setup...

it's not very retro is it? 2x9 - unless you track down and go with the Ritchey versions - which was quite cool but a pain in the bum to setup first time round. i've been using 2x9 for ages - since my Ritchey setup died, currently using race face turbines 94bcd, boone ti rings 29/42 - 44 shown...

    Early SID question

worth knowing i've got a set of old 98 sids (the first ones) and never really trusted the needle valve/rubber bit as the first ones died in less than a month. recently discovered that you can swap out the top caps (positive air chamber caps) from 2004 etc SIDs as a replacement for the whole...

i wasn't aware they ever offered the ti lite with disk mounts, am guessing these are a custom addition? i believe the first one's arrived (from sandvick) at the santa cruz cannery in July 1995? not sure when they stopped making them/they got cleared out on supergo??

What if Retro wasnt retro anymore? Would you still crave it?

great thread i've been thinking about this a lot lately, i'm kind of retro by default, all i ever wanted when i was at uni was a Bontrager and when i bought one that was me done, no other brand has come close. that said current bontrager branded components do nothing for me...but now 12 years...

    How big were those people

experiences of a shorta$$ tell me about it, shops were all too keen to sell you the bike regardless of size for a long time...or at least had little no idea about sizing for mtbs. my first "mountain bike" a Halfords Carrera Quattro 20" 1989 my first real mountainbike (frame only) an orange...

    Am i wrong

hang on why/how can you even let a bike that ugly exist let alone be ridden by someone close to you?? you should look upon it as an opportunity/excuse to buy another great classic ride ideally in a size which will fit both of you...then you get to keep it afterwards.

    Roberts D.O.G.S.B.O.L.X

Clint, if you're in NZ you might also want to try Jeffson/kiwibikes in rotorua, Jeff might be able to fillet you a nice replacement stem together.

    King GripNut vs. 2Nut..

2 nut lets you... 2 nut lets you run a cable hanger for canti brakes like on a cross bike or a pre v brake mtb fork.

    Walt Works Forks

i have one on my bonty... so i guess i ought to contribute ;-) i got Walt to build a threadless steel fork, using his segmented style with a reduced offset crown ala the old Bontrager correction. I think as part of doing this Walt angled the crown segments forward and from the side the legs...
