    1984 Mercian King of Mercia

Re: Yep Chloe is already planning some big tours on it and is hunting ebay for some suitably retro panniers like say some Super Cs for it. The one remaining job is to free the rear dropout adjusters, but I think I'll give the GT85 a few days to work its magic before I try and move them!

    1984 Mercian King of Mercia

Re: Well in fairness to whoever last put the post in I had got a couple of levels of brute force and ignorance to go had the huge mole grips round the clamp and big hammer not freed it. As far as I'm concerned if it is metal on metal (particularly if two different metals) that aren't meant to...

    1984 Mercian King of Mercia

Re: And now has a much more fitting Brooks B17 saddle on it. Though I hope there is a special place in hell waiting for anyone who puts a bike together without using grease on things like seatposts!

    1984 Mercian King of Mercia

Yup, did sneak a quick ride on it, too small for me by 6 or 8 cm but still an absolute dream in terms of handling and ride quality. It's actually cost me less than it would have done to get her a her sized Triban 500 (cheapest they do in XS) and Decathlon bike or Mercian bike? I know which I'd...

    1984 Mercian King of Mercia

Well my 13yo daughter sort of fell in love with Mercian bikes at the Eroica Britannia a couple of weeks ago, first a rather stunning lugless pro with a space and stars paint job on their stand, then by the end of the weekend she had decided almost any Mercian was nicer than almost any bike made...

L'Eroica Britannia - Report & Photos; lets here your tales..

Yep there were a few, wish I hadn't bothered swapping them off mine, a 1984 Gran Course that was built up over the couple of years after than and ended up with some of those new fangled brakes back then!

Yep from what I understand the orginal deal with the original Italian Eroica on use of the name, branding and the likes was 5 years, though given how much fun the Italian crowd seemed to have I suspect it may become a regular fixture on the global vintage cycling calendar. Pretty amazing how...

Yup, my 10 year old loves her Triban 3 Junior and was eyeing up a 45cm red Triban 3 last time we were in Decathlon, she still needs to grow another couple of inches for one those but won't be long.

Not sure exactly when I bought them but it was certainly sometime in the mid to late 80s I bought the exage aero levers that were on my Gran Course till I tweaked it for this ride with a set of Golden Arrow levers. Also looking a photos of early to mid 80s bike races looks like aero brakes were...

Wanted, kids lightweight racing bike for a 10YO girl

Thanks but that one is a bit modern for what she wants!

Wanted, kids lightweight racing bike for a 10YO girl

Budget is flexible depending what is on offer, but guess I was thinking a couple of hundred or so for the complete bike, don't mind getting it in bits, haven't built a bike from the frame up in far too long! Frame sounds interesting, what size is it and what size wheels does it take? She is...

There were certainly a lot of your counrymen there this year, though I think the Peak District hills came as a bit of a shock to some of them!

Had a Polar RX3 on my wrist as it is the most retro watches I own, looks like one of those huge Casio digital watches from the 80s while doing a lot more of course! But in my defence it was only recording, would be time to give up life if couldn't navigate the course in my head!

    L'Eroica Britannia - this weekend

But despite the expensive jumble it was a great event. I only did the 30 thanks to doing my knee in on a cross country run a few days ago but despite having lived between about 100yds and a mile or so from the route of the 50 and 100 (near those 2 big fun descents on the old railway line!) all...

    L'Eroica Britannia - this weekend

Yep think most of the sellers in the jumble section had looked on ebay what stuff is fetching then tripled that to be their asking price. I saw a pretty Kn&**erd Viscount Tony Doyle with an asking price of way more than I paid for mine new from mums Littlewoods catalouge back in 81 or so!

I don't think even rain would have dampened the spirits of everyone too much, everyone was just so set on enjoying it.

Yep the roads round here aren't the best for tubs either, I just run clinchers on all my bikes as my racing days are several decades behind me!
