    1997 Rocky Mountain Altitude T.O.

Re: Agreed @troje. The bike currently weighs in at a shade over 24lbs / 10.9kg. The 18.5” frame is just under 4lbs/ 1.8kg. In my opinion there is no better hard tail than a lightweight triple butted chromoly frame!

    1997 Rocky Mountain Altitude T.O.

Hi everyone. It's been quite a few years since I last posted. Thought I'd share with you my COVID project - a "back to factory spec" rebuild of my '97 Rocky Mountain Altitude Team Only. The latest step was the addition of Panaracer Dart and Smoke Kevlar bead tires. The only thing that is not to...

    1997 Rocky Mountain Altitude T.O

Wasn't about the look of the tires, rather the traction. Unfortunately, i Couldn't find a set of natural sidewall WTB Velicoraptors with Kevlar beads locally! ;)

    1997 Rocky Mountain Altitude T.O

Troje Good luck on the bidding. I need to weigh it again. It's been a Long long time. If memory serves it was around 23lbs on a calibrated bike scale. I do remember the frame was about 3.8 lbs.

How to increase air pressure in RockShox Mag 21?

Simply pop off the black cap on the center of the top of the adjuster on each fork leg and insert the needle in the center. It is as simple as that!

    1997 Altitude T.O.

I actually posted it about a year ago in the bikes >97 section. I think someone had asked me to post some outside close ups which I forgot to do. I'll have to resurrect the thread and add the extra pics. Just heading out for a family ride now. Have a great day!

    1997 Altitude T.O.

Troje, what a beautiful build you have going and what a find on the frame. It must have been in storage for a decade like mine was! Enjoy!!!

    1997 Altitude T.O.

I'm going to correct my last statement. The 97 didn't come with any bar ends. Those race face ti bar ends were off my 93 Altitude. Loved em too much to give them up! Synchros seat post, Judy steering tube, and Ritchey WCS pedals were also ti stock spec tidbits. We are not that far apart on the...

    1997 Altitude T.O.

Very nice ride and commitment to detail on the restoration! Looks beautiful!!!! Welcome to the Altitude T.O. club. Owned mine since new in 97...and will never ever sell it! PS: For your reference during the rebuild...apart from the tires and seat, this is the exact stock spec for 1997.

Looking for front shock advice - 97 Rocky Mtn Altitude TO

Re: Looking for front shock advice - 97 Rocky Mtn Altitude T Thanks stump jumper 1990. I've got lots of experience rebuilding shocks, so I'm going to enjoy doing it myself. The big concern I had (after finding out the cartridge was rebuildable) was simply whether seals etc were available...

Looking for front shock advice - 97 Rocky Mtn Altitude TO

Re: Looking for front shock advice - 97 Rocky Mtn Altitude T Great suggestion. I'm going to do the full pull apart and replace with some slightly thicker 7.5wt shock oil. What a great site this is. Thanks again!

Looking for front shock advice - 97 Rocky Mtn Altitude TO

Re: Looking for front shock advice - 97 Rocky Mtn Altitude T The damper assembly has lost some oil over the last 15 years! It still functions but does have some air in it. I pulled up all the service manuals but do not want to pull apart the cartridge if all the seals etc are unobtaniums! Is...

Re: Looking for front shock advice - 97 Rocky Mtn Altitude T Thanks fluffy chicken. Between posting this and reading your reply i found Kronos. One purple set +180lbs is already on order. Just dd a full disassembly and the butter is still surprisingly clean despite MCU disintegration. Are...

Looking for front shock advice - 97 Rocky Mtn Altitude TO

Re: Looking for front shock advice - 97 Rocky Mtn Altitude T Actually I'd be happy to keep them. The bike is in stock condition. However the elastomers are completely shot as is the damping cartridge. Its my understanding that parts are no longer available....any assistance in sourcing parts...

Looking for front shock advice - 97 Rocky Mtn Altitude TO

Hi everyone, I have a really nice condition 97 Rocky Altitude TO 18.5" that I'd like to get new front forks for. Wondering what recommendations may be out there in this day and age to replace the stock Judy SL's. Obviously I'm not interested in adding tons of travel to the bike and altering the...

    1997 Specialized Allez M2 Comp

Hi Everyone. I'm a first time poster to the retro road bike section ( but not to the Mtn bike section). I've just pulled my wife's bone stock "Handmade in the USA" Allez M2 Comp out of storage. It is still in excellent condition and has not been ridden more than a few miles in the last 13...
