    Help restoring old Dawes

Cleared up the wheel issue. I measured the radius from the hub centre to the centre of the slot that holds the brake pad and it came to 310mm so 700c it is. This is good as it will allow a little more gap to fit mudguards, Esge were the ones to have back in the day and I have been told they...

right it seems after talking to my retro girlfriend that I got the date wrong for the purchase of the Echelon it was in fact a 1981-82 bike. It definately had Michelin Elans fitted so could it have been on 700c's ? Oh, and would this fit ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Retro-Suntour ... 2c64f7fd25

This link shows a catalogue from 1982 and suggests the Echelon came with 700c rims. http://bulgier.net/pics/bike/Catalogs/D ... _specs.jpg I did change the wheels before it went into storage so I probably put the wrong ones on.

fantastic to see the old brochures :) The colour was similar to the Raleigh Nimrod but was lighter. Vauxhall had a colour almost the same in the late 90's

I have just fitted a 700c rim from my wifes Horizon and the brakes were not an issue. Can I confirm the tyre size is correct though for a 700c wheel ? The size on the tyre is 28x1 5/8 Ideally I would like a chainset with 42 / 30 rings that would fit my BB any ideas on this ? Would the...

sorry no pics at the moment :? The chainset currently fitted is the factory one "SR apex" 40-52 with a square taper, I guess to fit a Campagnolo one I would need to fit a Campag. BB ? Part of me thinks it would be nicer to just fit a longer rear derailleur and a 14/34 tooth sprocket just...

I had considered keeping the 27" wheels and if tyres are available and specifically Dutch perfects then I probably will. As far as the chainset goes, is there anything that will go straight onto the bottom bracket ? I'm a bit confused about chain widths etc.

    Help restoring old Dawes

as above I have a 1979 Dawes Echelon that I would like to update. I have owned the bike from new, it was bought for me by my Mum as a replacement for a Galaxy that was stolen in Reading, bless her. Apart then from the fact I really like the bike it does have a sentimental attachment too. Back...
