Shimano 105 SLR non aero brakes

Re: Thanks for the reply Jonny69 - but it doesn't quite answer my question. To put it a bit less complicatedly - am I going to get more effective braking from the hoods with these sprung, non aero 105s than I get from the unsprung 600s?

Shimano 105 SLR non aero brakes

Dear all! Last year I bought the Raleigh Randonneur below to replace my old Dawes Horizon which had been written off by someone right turning into my path. I've been gradually renovating it and at the same time accumulating parts for a temporary updating for a tour next year. Anyway, one...

    Beige bar tape

I'd use Brooks Honey but it really isn't the right stuff. It's for my 1987 Raleigh Randonneur which had beige tape from new. It's not that unlike Fizik in texture but it certainly doesn't have a natural leather look. It probably would look good as the bike has the original brown Brooks...

    Beige bar tape

Hello all Anyone know of a good source for beige (not brown) bar tape? I've got some Deda cork - and it is a load of junk. Far too short, ugly Deda embossing (thanks for that Deda.....) and it tears. Probably will stain badly too. Big waste of money really and, anyway, I don't really want cork...

    1987 Raleigh Randonneur

Even since before my lovely Dawes Horizon (below) got written off by someone deciding to right turn into me I've been wanting something that was a better fit for a tour planned for next year (the 25 inch Dawes was fitted to me new in 1990 when overall height was the only determinand for a fit!)...

    dawes id please

If you are after getting rid of the frame I might be interested. I wanted a scruffy frame I could swap the parts from my Dawes Horizon onto (written off by a right turning Smidsy) so I could have a winter commuter to be less precious about. Frame onlys mostly seem to go for too much (eg scruffy...

    dawes id please

Lol - I'd thought about sticking a bid on that so I asked the vendor a couple of questions: 1) Any chance of a picture from around the head tube area - I was wondering what the brown bit of the paintwork at the top of the forks is. 2) Can you confirm that the frame is straight, rust free and...

    RaleighRacer's Carlton Corsair

Yes - a bit of a gate - I think it's actually about 25.5. Odd geometry on these. My late lamented Dawes Horizon I bought new in 1990 and that was 25 - I'm tall but long legged and now I prefer 23.5 (though the top tube length on these seems not so much shorter than the 25s....). Anyway, this...

    RaleighRacer's Carlton Corsair

Panaracer Pasela are nice. Nice Corsair restoration. I did similar for a friend of mine. It had been in a garage a decade or so before I got to work on it. Came out nice though. Brakes are not suitable for Dales descents! Head tubes always seem rust prone on these but it's worth some T cut...

    TOP SWING DOWNPULL FRONT DERAILLEUR

Here is how it looks in Suntour form (on a Carlton Corsair I renovated). Very nice mechanism - means that forward on both shifters means warp factor seven and backwards on the shifters means whoaahhhh there! Nice and consistent.....

I'm new and after a Raleigh Criterium!

I renovated a mates Peugeot Triathlon (1991 ish) and that was 531 main tubes but I know it was 501 a year or two earlier. I don't think there is such a thing as a full 501 tubeset. I've not seen any Reynolds stickers that refer to 501 stays either. There's a bloke at work commutes on a...

Modernising a 1983? Carlton Raleigh Record Ace- With Photos

That's nice. I'd bin the vintage Campag idea and go with period Suntour. Much cheaper and better with it. And a bit more interesting. I have a UK market Record Ace with Suntour (the Cyclone GT rear mech is as good as almost any mech you'll find and the shifters are the perfect match) -and it's...

Will a short cage work for a 13-28?

I think that that ties in with the official line as I recall my 13-29 setup was one tooth greater than recommended. However, my impression is that the mech could probably handle 13-30 if such a cassette was available. Might be wrong but it doesn't feel as though it is right on the limit. I think...

Will a short cage work for a 13-28?

And with a compact. I sometimes use Campag 10 speed compact with a 13-29 cassette on short cage.

Advice for attaching cadence magnet to crank arm

Neodymiums are great! Just bung the magnet at the pedal spindle and away you go! You might need to use a screwdriver to lever it off when you want to take the pedal off but what could be neater?! Even enabled me to place the sensor in a location it didn't mess with the writing on the chain stay!

    Which one would you keep?

What do they know - they take the gears off bikes!

I definitely think you should go for a stem rather than a fish.

Not so fast - pictures or it never happened! You can't take good advice and then not share the pleasure of the benefits!

    Raleigh Triathlon 531

The sticker on the frame's a bit of a clue too! I once went to look at one of these on Ebay locally to me. It turned out to be very rusty though, like this one, entirely redeemable. It went for silly money given the condition - over £100 irrc. This is what I did with some T Cut and my...
