I wonder if anyone with experience of this can help me please? My bike basically works, the only problem is that the chain has stretched 1/8" and should be replaced. So I fitted a new SRAM 991 chain. All fine on the stand, but when I put my foot on the pedal to set off, the chain didn't engage...

Kona always said 27.0, but in most cases a 27.2 will fit a 98 Explosif better. Fit the biggest post you can get out again - that way you put less stress on the seat tube when you tighten the clamp.

No, a shorter stem will always make the steering quicker, regardless of any other factor.

Yes, a shorter stem will give you quicker steering, and yes a 70 will make a noticeable difference compared to a 90. The rise of the stem doesn't make much/any difference, but bars that are more swept back will have the same effect as a shorter stem.

Re: The one for sale definitely looks more recent than the one in the Merlin advert - if anything, it looks to have a longer head tube in size 15 than the size 21 in the Merlin advert! But then again, that could be explained by the Merlin ad featuring an out-of date mock-up, as the wording...

Re: Unless you're saying GF56 00430 is the serial number? I haven't seen a serial number in that format before, but it could mean that it was built in a factory with initials GF in June 2005 - would that fit with what you know of its history?
