    Why the 'chunky' suspension?

I bought the Recon believing it was an XC fork like the SID, at least that's what it's categorized as today but it does feel it's suited toward the more aggressive trail rider. It's interesting you mention braking force of discs Al, as it was around the 2005/06 period disc brakes were a very...

    Why the 'chunky' suspension?

I recently swapped my 2006 era Rock Shox Recon forks, the first of these kind and what appears to be a change in width of Rock Shox forks from this period. I upgraded to SID, they're only a year older than my previously owned Recon but the cosmetic changes are so obtuse one would think they're...

    Another P*SSED OFF Halfords customer

From personal experience, some of the Halfords staff aren't mechanically minded and lack product knowledge. The few that seem to know what they're talking about, actually have no idea! I prefer to support my LBS, the staff there are friendlier and show a willingness to help. As a regular...

    Another P*SSED OFF Halfords customer

I've recently salvaged a wheel used for spares and/or repair, the rim wall eventually split from braking wear on the previous wheel so i extracted it and laced the hub to the replacement rim. Anyway, i visited my local Halfords and mistakenly had the 'bicycle mechanics' true the wheel. Upon...

2001 Marzocchi Bomber Z4 Forks £40 (Inc. postage)

I failed to sell these forks on eBay as i listed them as collection only, i've decided to feature them on RetroBike and will consider postage. However, this is the only original picture i have available of them as i currently don't have access to a digital camera i'm unable upload more images...

Seat hard on the arse or what?

Without the appropriate padding, the cosmetics of a bicycle saddle is of little relevance to myself as whatever shape or style, every saddle i've ever sat on has become a pain in the arse. Literally.

    Recon SL help/info

I also have these forks, i purchased them pre-set to 100mm. Travel is adjusted via filing (increase travel) or adding (decrease travel) an internal spacer. Not recommended. For your information, the RockShox air pressure chart on recent model forks does not conform exactly to performing with...

Preparing for a 40mile road ride... What do I need?

As the surface will be tarmac use slick tyres for less rolling resistance, increase pressure or lockout your forks, the suspension will absorb much of that hard work from your pedaling! Be conservative but consistent with your pedaling.

    Modern Road Cassette Compatibility

I thought certain derailleurs were designed for specific ratios and/or limit. ...So an older MTB derailleur should have no difficulty engaging the cogs of a road cassette?

    Modern Road Cassette Compatibility

For road use i wish to upgrade my current MTB cassette to a road cassette (9 speed) in the near future. (I always ride within the high gears of an 11-34 ratio, i very rarely shift from the smallest sprocket). I intend to continue using a long cage Shimano XTR M952 rear derailleur. My question...
