    KONA AA rebuilt

Fair points about the cables - though not sure you've id'd the rear brake cable correctly - that's actually pretty snug, and the slight curve you can see at the rear is a fixed guide. The seatpost is the original.... Yes - GPS mounted on the handlebars. Not for navigation ( ! ) but as an...

    KONA AA rebuilt

And here she is post having all the new bits..... A quick spin today - but first impressions are slightly livlier steering (you can see the somewhat changed geometry going from 80mm travel to 100 mm travel forks and a shorter goose neck on the handlebar stem), all round substantially lighter...

    KONA AA rebuilt

A little while back I asked some advice here about rebuilding a Kona AA - effectively all about taking off pretty much everything from the frame and replacing it. I included some pictures of the original bike just before she went in for the rebuild:

KONA AA rebuild questions....with added pictures !

It is indeed pretty much still as original spec; same chainset, brakes, wheels, forks...think it's just chain and tyres that have been replaced, and the addition of bottle cage, bar ends and grips...

KONA AA rebuild questions....with added pictures !

I thought I'd take a bunch of photos before she goes in for her rebuild. Ironically I was going to take it out for a last spin in the current configuration over the last couple of days (great weather) and then the locking ring on the rear gear cassette failed.... Anyway - lots of pics. I...

KONA AA rebuild questions....with added pictures !

Well...all the bits are bought. Now just have to wait for them to turn up.... It seems the wheels are hard to get hold of...

KONA AA rebuild questions....with added pictures !

I wanted to post this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSINO6MKtco] in the previous post, as chap in shop 1 reminded me very much of the shopkeeper in this classic Not The Nine O'Clock News sketch; so superior about the fact that mechanically I'm a klutz more interested in riding bikes than...

KONA AA rebuild questions....with added pictures !

Thanks for all of the above. Yup - spoke to another shop (let's say - shop 2) and they said that I'd need a new headset and stem - which, given the extent of what I'm planning to do is not really a drama. What I don't understand is why the bloke I spoke to at - let's call it Shop 1 - couldn't...

KONA AA rebuild questions....with added pictures !

Well that plan didn't survive long...since I'm told that I can't fit the Rockshox to the AA because of the steering stem/headtube (which is 1 1/8th). Not quite sure I understand the problem (I'm a rider...not a mechanic...) though the chap in the shop was distinctly - indeed, given the money I...

KONA AA rebuild questions....with added pictures !

Ok, I'm guessing that this is very probably utter sacrilege to say so here, but my plan is to rebuild it with modern parts....the aim being to mix the best of the new (that I can afford) with a great retro frame.... (Edited to add:It's a '94 model - lovely alu frame)

KONA AA rebuild questions....with added pictures !

OK, I'm going to risk sticking my head above the parapet here...never a good thing for a complete newbie on a forum...but there seem too much expertise here not to ask.... I have - and absolutely adore - a Kona AA. It has been ridden hard over the years but is still going strong, and aside...
