    1x vs 3x: The Maths

Something of relevance worth mentioning is that I used to spend some time with fourcross racers back in late 00s. And I remember they would use whatever was the common cassette size at the time but put their 3 favourite sprockets in the centre of the cassette and remove unused ones altogether...

    1x vs 3x: The Maths

There is a lot of text here, but doesn't seem chainline was discussed ? To me the choice of chainrings on a double or triple was always as much about selecting a straightish chain angle as it was the desired ratio. It's a bit too much of a brain twister for me to figure out if a 1x is any...

Drivetrain parts Vs new drivetrain Vs new bike.

I also recently changed the headset for a nice cartridge one after the original one ground / rusted to the point the steerer was rattling.

Drivetrain parts Vs new drivetrain Vs new bike.

Thanks everyone for comments. I decided to have a dig on my phone for a picture of the bike in question. Can't remember why I took the picture and on non drive side but there it is. The front bb7 brake eventually died and I now have an excessively good trp hydraulic brake on the front that makes...

Drivetrain parts Vs new drivetrain Vs new bike.

Ha, there was a period of around 3 years where I had a super weird setup of nitto promenade handlebars and super old fully plastic Sachs non indexed thumb shifters. But then I put on a more conventional Easton monkeybar paired with some Shimano (rapidfire?) Shifters.

Drivetrain parts Vs new drivetrain Vs new bike.

Do you know if middle rings need to be middle rings? Most of the the I saw a lot in 39t but they seemed to be the outer rings for cyclo-cross doubles.

Drivetrain parts Vs new drivetrain Vs new bike.

I currently am in an confusing position of having the drivetrain parts on my very boring utilitarian Kona dew wear out. It is the chain and the middle chainring which are both beyond worn out. I can no longer pedal the bike without chain slipping. The cassette is probably okay as I remember...

Recommendations for UK fairs, festivals and jumbles

Replying to my own thread, I'll add this site which reliably lists cycle jumbles which are always good for people like us http://www.bikejumbles.co.uk/pages/calendar.html As for regular car boots I thoroughly recommend Studley (near Redditch) for a west mids car boot. Its very big and well...

Recommendations for UK fairs, festivals and jumbles

I really like this sort of thing and want to go to as many as possible this year after Covid lockdowns ! What good fairs, festivals and jumbles do you know? I've always wanted to go to a country fair where people show off prize livestock and vintage tractors. But wouldn't know where to begin...

Sold Handsome dog 15” alu frame

If anyone is concerned about lack of disc brake on this sort of bike. Just from personal experience, a V brake is more than fine on a dirt jumper or four cross kind of bike. Just like how pro elite BMX race bikes are fine on V brakes too. And it allows you to run a long cable for barspinz 🤘

For Sale 1994 (I think) Orange Clockwork

Ooh nice, I'm v tempted and could collect too. But because I've just started several bike projects and trying to buy appliances for a house I probably shouldn't. Macclesfield seems lovely for cycling btw, it seems like it would be a real nice trip to come collect and then go on a long ride.

Wanted Two front thru axle hubs or full wheels

After two front hubs on the cheap, need not be pretty or fancy. They are actually for a non bike project. Axles and a dead fork to salvage the mounts of could be useful too.

For Sale Welding (mainly Birmingham but potentially national)

So there is probably a fair chance this is too off topic for the classifieds and will be locked , apologies to mods if so. I thought I'd try it out and see. Okay so what's on offer? Me a trained up (at a proper college) welder looking for opportunities to weld things to develop my skills and...

For Sale Last of the 26 COTIC Souls - med in duck egg

Thanks, I did actually find that already but according to the chart the frame would be on big side for me, and I have always favoured smaller frames. I was hoping that 2manyoranges found it to be a smaller than usual medium

For Sale Last of the 26 COTIC Souls - med in duck egg

Unusual question but how long steerer is needed for this frame ? (I have another fork I want to put on it) Also as it's currently setup, what side of rider would you say it suits ? Cheers

Re: To all those that might be wary of getting a crankset a little heavier than the usual mtb fare. You need these type of cranks if you want to do crank grinds, which are a fun and not too hard trick to do. Aluminium cranks get chewed up and nasty.

Tech / ideas that are old but as good as current quo

This has probably been discussed lots of times on a forum like this, but Ive never participated so I hope its okay to start a thread :-) Discuss some of the stuff thats not popular anymore, why its not and why its still good. I'll start with some of the obvious ones. 26 inch wheels! - still...
