    Changing gearing on Raleigh Sprint

Thanks to everyone for the friendly advice. I have decided to experiment with fitting a new freewheel block, looking at a 13-32T, which will give me theoretically both more speed top end plus significantly lower gearing for hill climbing, albeit some biggish step changes. I'll let you know how...

    Changing gearing on Raleigh Sprint

Thanks. Freewheel range is 14-26 and chainrings are 52/42 (must have miscounted before!) I'd like a bigger big cog on the back of course, but I'd also like a smaller one for more top end speed, and I have a feeling that's not going to be possible with a 5 speed (I don't think the Sachs Huret...

Don't think the loss off the...

Oh OK, don't worry I can think stuff out for myself, its just nice to chat sometimes, maybe my bikes a bit proletarian for this forum, or maybe it was just a dumb question! Hello anyway, and nice to find a site where older bikes are appreciated.

    Changing gearing on Raleigh Sprint

Hi, I am the proud owner of a 10 speed Raleigh Sprint, 80's vintage - absolutely love it but the gearing is quite high for our Welsh hills and my ageing knees (54/42 on the front if I've counted them correctly), was thinking about maybe putting 52/39 chainrings on and a 6 speed freewheel. I...
