It's beause it is not an Eldrige Grade but a Bear Valley. A friend of mine had the same bike back in the day. The 400LX is the original equipment.

Re: The Manitou 4 and EFC used the crowns with the round cutout, the Manitou 3 had the angular cutout. You can use both that's why you'll find forks with round and angular crowns when people swapped crowns (e.g. for a different frame). The stem is definitely a A-Tac qill stem. Earelier A-Tacs...

I've got the very same bike (even the same size) in my shed. It's a 1992 model if I'm not mistaken. Original spec was a full XT group with Zoom parts and Araya RM-400 rims and Specialized tyres. Nice one!
