Jane Eastoe - Britain by bike. New book.

It's advertised as a sort of tribute to Harold Briercliffe who wrote a series of cycle touring guides in the late 1940's, early 1950's that would appeal to people on this site. Avoid this book though. It's dreadful. She hasn't ridden a bike in her life. See my review on Amazon for more info...

    Favourite reads

Anyone like to share any favourites? I'm very fond of Harold Briercliffe's series of Cycling Touring Guides from late 1940's. Full of wonderful ideas like "Conceal your machine and take the day to walk up Ben Nevis". Yeah right Harold. Apparently, the good news, the BBC are doing a...

Isn't it a scary thought, but

if there'd been a bike scrappage scheme, how many of our bikes would still be around?

    1990 Ken Bird

OK, the morning's work completely shot to bits, so the time before lunch adding the last one in my collection. Well, it's not really a collection, they're just middle aged bikes I never got rid of or upgraded. Old friends. This Ken Bird frame I bought from him in 1990 after getting a bit...

    2 Roy Thames

The gold one (The Beloved) was the love of my life and much missed - it was lost in a fire in 1988. This is the only photo I have of it. I bought the frame in Jan 1980 from Holdsworths in Putney and had great enjoyment starting my racing career on it in club (Gravesend CC) and Kent time trials...

Shimano Deore XT U-Brake service instruction sheet Jan 1987

This may be of interest I'm told. Think it's clear enough to tell you at least which bit went pinging off into the mud and is now lost forever...

    Saracen Trekker 1988

Bought new 18 Nov 1988 from Cycleland Bromley after I lost various road bikes in a fire and decided I probably wasn't going to race any more. Stayed in the shed from August 1997 until last weekend, when my son dragged it out and suggested I look at this site. Apart from tweaking a tight...

    U Brake Instruction sheet

I've got the original service instruction sheet for Shimano DeoreXT U-Brakes. BR-M731 (and BL-M730 brake lever) dated Jan 1987. It's got full exploded view etc. Would it be worth scanning and posting or is it readily available on this site or elsewhere? I'd have to persuade my friendly...

Stuff Lance - it IS about the bike!

Basically I'm an old roadie, but have done a lot of resting in the past years. With retirement not too far away, I'm aiming to spend more time riding. I lost my bikes in a fire in 1988 (a hack Peugeot, my beautiful time trial Roy Thame - which I still really grieve for - and a restored 1965...
