    Happy Yorkshire day everyone!

1st August is the day we think of those who are less fortunate than ourselves: southerners, the french, Lancastrians. Not everyone is as blessed as we are to live at the centre of the world. I will be taking the day off work (As the state has failed to make it a bank holiday I have had to dip...

    Free cardboard bike courier box

Anyone in Leeds or N Yorks selling a bike and wants a FREE postage box to put it in? I've had a bike delivered today and it's a keeper so I don't need to keep the box so if anyone nearby needs to post a bike away let me know.

GT triple triangle rear derailleur routing

Evening all, I am building up a 1992 Avalanche and am a bit puzzled, the rear brake bosses have a hole at the top and the bottom that you can pass a wire through, am I right in thinking that you feed the rear gear cable through them? It seems unusual but if I try to by-pass the brake boss holes...

    When we had hair !

A few weeks ago me and Marc Two Tone were travelling to a Retrobike ride and we stopped off to check the track across a footbridge and see if it would be ok for a ride. When we walked down the track I realised that we were going passed a nature reserve wood where I'd helped build a fence round...

    Movember, opinions sought

Hullo there gents, I am wanting your opinions on an important subject; should I take part in Movember and grow a mustash for charidee? Two of the chaps at work are doing it and trying to pursuade me to join them. I think I'll look like some kind of council estate rat-boy, without even the...

    Retroparts spotted in odd places.

I know there is a thread for retrobikes you've seen been used in day to day life but today I saw something that got me thinking. A bike tyre- not just any tyre but a toothpaste-green and amberwall jobby presumably a Wildgripper- slung over a television aerial on the roof of small warehouse in...

    Paralympic and Olympic letter boxes.

I came home from work and found that our local post box has been painted gold in honour of Danielle Brown, local British paralympian archeress who comes from Lothersdale (Pres no letter box in Lothersdale??)! I'm really thrilled by this and flattered that she has honoured me by getting a medal...

I didn't know what to say to this

Travelling home from work today I met a lass I know with her daughter, who is about to start her second year at [a proper] University. Her mum mentioned walking along the canal and asked if I've ever cycled that way. This got us onto talking about bikes and the daughter said she kept losing...

    Grizedale New Years Day?

Anyone feeling like a ride at Grizedale on New Years Day morning? I'll be staying with friends over at Gt Langdale and we are planning to ride there, all being well. Probably arriving for an eleven o'clock start-ish. Will probably ride in from the Coniston road as we'll be peddling down, rather...

    Pennine

Not so long ago I saw a Pennine rigid mountain bike in Leeds. It was steel- Reynolds 501 I think- with some kind of plating [Chrome, Nickel?] and black writing. I thought it looked pretty tasty and unusual. I know that Pennine are a frame builder in Bradford who are best known for their road...

    Beware this Numpty in Lancaster

Here is a cautionary tale which happened to me this morning. I locked my bike to the bike rack in Lancaster town centre and went into a shop. When I came out someone else had locked their bike onto the other side of the bike rack with a U-lock which was also- aha!- locked round my top tube. So...

    Non-BSO Kawasaki

1994 Kawasaki KMB450 in Hampshire, found whilst looking to see if anyone was selling the rarer blue/black version .Obviously been sold by someone who doesn't know much about bikes because they don't mention the size- looks about 16" to me. Missing fork gaiters but forks are probably gone...

How Suntour Xpress/ Maeda CFXpress, Xpress+ works

I keep seeing posts about people having trouble with their thumbshifters, so I thought I'd strip some down and have a look. I always want to know how things work and so should you! Maybe it'll help people diagnose problems they are having with theirs. I'm not going to bother with “Proper”...

Seat clamps that keep coming loose

I've got a repeating problem with the seat clamps coming loose and tilting the saddle back at an awkward angle. It happened with the Marin Lite alloy seat pillar which I had before. It would do it with any combination of saddle, bolt, spacers or adjusters, so I figured it was somekind of...

Found stem shim 1 to 1 1/8th inch

Found Hiya I'm looking for a stem shim for 1 to 1 1/8th inch conversion to finish off my 1994 Stumpjumper rebuild. Just a fiddly little thing but I'd rather see if any retrobikers have one before starting on Ebay. Thanks, Rich.
