    Rigid Stumpjumper

I think I bought my rigid Stumpy about 1997/98. It's steel called Nitanium. There are some scrapes where the chain came off but it hasn't rusted. Does this type of steel not rust?

Have you had a good look in your barn?

When you ride a Moulton Speedsix the hills become flat, the wind is always behind you, the components never wear out because they are made from Durilium, the gears change automatically by thought control, and you are irresistible to anyone to whom you wish to be irresistible. In fact because...

What makes of bike do members think can be realistically described as "boutique" retro mountain bike brands?

The New versus the Old: Surly Troll

Has anyone ridden this modern steel rigid Mountain bike? (It seems to be the only rigid steel Mountain bike made today). I wonder how does it compares with its vintage brethren? http://www.bicycledoctor.co.uk/shop/surly-troll/

    BIN prices on Ebay

I've recently started looking at prices of Retro rigid mountain bikes on Ebay. There seems to be a considerable difference between BIN prices and prices actually achieved. Reasonable bikes often seem to sell for under £100 and some don't sell at all. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rare-Retro-Te ...

    pressie for Sprog

Looking to buy a vintage rigid steel Mountain bike in good condition size 20.5 inch or 21 inch with similar geometry and umph as my 1998 eight speed rigid mango coloured Stumpy. It's for my son but he's 6 2 and mine is too small for him at 18 inch which is a pity because I have too many bikes...

Top Retro Rigid Mountain bikes Makers

Apart from the custom-made mountain bikes like those made by Roberts and Yates are all retro steel and aluminium rigid bikes much of a muchness or do some makes stand out in terms of build-quality and componentry? I appreciate that there will be different views on this. What are the makes which...

Why aren't good new retro rigid mountain bikes still made?

Does anyone know if it's possible to buy a new, good quality, retro, traditional, rigid mountain bike with triple chainrings? I've read somewhere that some people who want one buy hardtails and change the front forks to a rigid which is extraordinary if true. If you could buy one it would...

Will my son inherit my Stumpy?

With his usual tact my son has expressed a wish to inherit my Stumpy when I go on that never-ending ride in the sky. It's an 18 inch 1998 rigid Stumpy in good nick. He would probably be better accommodated on a 19 inch - he says he's 6 2 but I think he's only 6 1, but it's an 18 inch which is...

    1998 Rigid Stumpjumper

I'll soon have to change the chainset on my Stumpjumper. The bike is in good condition and it is probably my favourite bike. It has been ridded on roads and tracks. Most of the stuff on it is original with the exception of the shifters, cranks, chainrings and of course chain and cassette. The...
