    Primer, paint, sandsheets recommendations?

Hi All I am about to restore a a steel frame with quite a few paint chips. Rust has been removed by soaking in evaporust, inside has been protected with T9 boshield. I would now like to fix the paint chips before assembling. I have the enamel paint matching (humbrol model paint). Can you...

Possible options for 26in rim brake 1 1/8 threadless forks?

Hi All I need my daily to have a threadless fork, so that I can place a 10mm spacer on the steerer which is required to mount my front bike child seat. It just won't work with quill stems. Original fork is a Marin (dropout stamped "Tange", not Spinner) with the usual 395 a/c and ~45mm offset. I...

Based on this weight is this an Eldridge Grade?

As part of a 1993 EG restoration I weighted the frame whilst it was stripped and got 2.33 kg. It is a 19 in. This seems a little high and the frame number is M63, which does not seem to correspond to EG. It does appear to be original however with even the sticker of the original LBS still on...

m739 vs m951 shifters: is there one that genuinely performs better?

Looking to move to v-brake for a new build and therefore would like to get a new set of shifter. Is there one of these sets which is actually better than the other and if yes can you tell me why you think it is better? Marin 90s BB / chainline question

I took out of a team marin 1994 a M900 crankset and it was mounted with a 107mm spindle UN71 Bottom bracket. I would like to mount the set (cranks + front mech m900) on a 1993 eldrdige grade frame, and possibly reuse the UN71 BB with 107mm spindle. Now those frames are all 135mm OLD, and I...

M900, M560, M320 crankset: are they the same?

Those 3 Shimano cranksets from the same era (1993 / 1994) have a very similar look and have the same weight. In fact surprisingly the lower spec (M320) is the lightest.. Now the chainrings of the Exage are almost twice heavier than other rings, but for the crankset itself, I struggle to see...

Where can I find 7/8s chainrings that will fit M900 and LX BCD110?

Hi All All in the title really, have a couple of cranksets which I would like to use again but chainrings are used. They are for 7s 1993 / 1994 bikes (were on eldrdige grade and team marin respectively). I see a lot of 9/10s that would go on BCD110 but I wish to still run 3x7s for now and am...

In your opinion what is the deal with those Marin dropouts? They don't seem original

Looking at this Marin, judging by the plating and the XT components, I think this may be a 1993 Team Marin. However I don't recognise the dropout at the junction with the stays. What do you think, is this original? Is it a thing to replace dropouts? Thanks!

Manitou Answer Easton E9: is it worth anything?

Hi All, Purchased an old Marin Team Issue (1994) from original owner. It had this Manitou fork on it. I don't recall seeing those in the Marin catalogues so I assume it may have been an option. The bike year, 1994, seems in line for the year of those forks. Also the bike was purchased is France...

Saving this bent Marin team derailleur hanger: How would you go about it?

As some of you know I found a marin team (or maybe team issue since most parts are xtr) to be restored. I've been looking for a while and they're not easy to come by so took my chances with this one. Overall the frame is in good shape, a minuscule dent almost inivisble, a desoldered bottle...

Is this seat stay damage or is this normal?

Picked up a bike from ebay and just arrived home I saw something strange under the seat stay: Hard to tell if this is damage or normal as it's near the weld? But the other side does not have this. Thanks!

Marin 1993 paint codes, how to go about that?

Hi All Does anybody know how to go about identifying paint codes for Marin? specifically 1993 models, E.g. the Eldridge grade (what an absolute beauty this one is ...) or Bear Valley. This will help me decide if I strip the paint and go for brand new or not. Thank you
