    The Health and Nutrition Thread

I think it important to take command of one's own health. This most often requires efforts outside of established allopathic medical systems. I think a thread dedicated to those who want to discuss their own self-directed health care might be worthwhile. Shared experiences which have proven...

    Bagged a Nishiki Cresta GT

Last November I saw this bike advertised and decided to buy. It is in very good condition and is orignial. I was thinking of putting Michelin Protek tires on it. The wheels are 27". I'd thought about replacing the 27'ers with 700c but I don't want to put any significant money into this bike if...

    Raising the Bar... WAY up

I have developed trouble with my hands after riding a bike for so many years, mainly the right one. Handlebar palsy they call it. Surgery is scheduled to help correct the problem and thanks to Canada's vaunted and worldy acclaimed health care system, this surgery should take place 13 months from...

Canadian Content - Mikado TR300 Touring

Mikado is still around I think, based in Quebec. There is one of their older model steel frame touring bikes for sale locally from (he says) the original owner. For $499. Now, the way I see it is that this is a $60 bike. I'd buy it for that (for the frame basically) to have as a spare. It's...

    Tire Choices - Michelin Protek

I invite feedback from users of the Michelin Protek on their road bikes. How are they for longevity, traction in certain conditions, build quality and are they true to size. I am considering buying a set in 27" for an old road bike I recently picked up. Thanks for the input!

Ever see an Asama Tunari ?

This bike routinely locks up where I do and I thought I'd take a few snaps for posterity. It is an Asama Tunari. Looks like the frame was chromed at the factory and then they painted it. Asama was an off brand available here in Canada and in this example, uses Tange Prestige which means it can't...

    Nishiki Cresta GT Owners

Are there any Nishiki Cresta GT owners here? If so, I'd like to hear from you.

    Wanted Ritchey 9mm Front Skraxle

I have front wheel with a Ritchey hub which uses this harebrain "skraxle" and the wheel is un-useable without it. The fellow (selling the axles in the picture) was someone I wasn't able to contact to buy one. Oh well. Anyone have one of these spare in their parts bin?

    Lonely Fork Seeks Frame

I have a Surly Pack Rat fork for 26 inch wheels that I had bought a few years ago on spec. The Pack Rat is NLA from Surly. I thought I'd would be kind of neat to mate this up with a suitable (non-Surly) frame. The steerer on the fork is modern threadless and plenty of steerer is present which is...

    Diamondback Ascent & Apex differences

Is there any difference between these two bikes other than componentry? I think the frames are both the same from what I gather.

Rocky Mountain Catalogues - filling in the blanks

Hi, I was speaking with the daughter of a former owner of a long historied local bike shop who was a Rocky Mountain dealer for ages. She retained several print catalogues as memorabilia. What's missing in the Retrobike archive as far as Rocky Mountain goes? Maybe I can ask to borrow those...

    Missing Rocky Mountain Catalogues

Hi, I was speaking with the daughter of a former owner of a long historied local bike shop who was a Rocky Mountain dealer for ages. She retained several print catalogues as memorabilia. What's missing in the Retrobike archive as far as Rocky Mountain goes? Maybe I can ask to borrow those...

    SEKINE GTO - $100

I comb the local listings everyday, longingly looking for a !@#$%^ steel frame hybrid for a tall rider but in vain thus far. On that lonely journey, you stumble across other interesting listings. The following being one of them...

Where the bikes we ride are made

I found this site today. Very interesting reading - many brands I'd never heard of. The bicycle market is tight with lots of choice for the consumer. https://thebestbikelock.com/bike-brands/

Wanted Rocky Mountain Sherpa 30 - XXL

Hi, I'm looking to buy a Rocky Mountain Sherpa 30 in a double XXl size, colour not important. This is the road bike version, not the modern mountain bike type. New, they were about CDN$1500, on the used market about $400. I could go for just the frame and fork too. I'm in Canada.

    Patria Falcon

There is a Patria Falcon for sale near here. I had never heard of the brand before. German apparently. What's the word on Patria. Is the Falcon a decent ride? Uses Deore LX throughout. It's way out of my price range, but I doubt she'll be able to sell it for that. The ad states it is a 60cm seat...

    Painting a couple of frames

Due to the number of steel frames failed within the last decade, I like to try and keep spares if possible. Otherwise, I have no way to get around. I have "in stock" a Maruishi MountAce and a Diamondback Ascent (or Apex, which is the lesser model of the two) both in a size 23". They do need...

Wanted Super Long Shot - Thorn Bicycle

Hi, I'm in Winnipeg Canada and have noticed there isn't much of a Thorn presence here (at least where I live). Perhaps on the East coast of the Country, 5000km closer to England. I'm intrigued by the apparent robustness of the Thorn frames, the 26" wheels and the overall utility of these bikes...

    The Hybrid thread proposal

I can't seem to find too much information on Hybrid bikes here on RB. I'd like to suggest a sticky to be made under Road(?) bikes in order to facilitate concentrated discussion. Maybe they weren't very popular in Europe but were over in North America for a time.
