Restoring a 98 P7 got it resprayed and all looking lovely and the Orange website says a 31.8 front mech......I duly locate a period xtr of said size to find it doesn’t bloody fit! The seat tube begins to ovalise 2/3 of the way down.....so a bit of help please.....what size do I actually need to get?

First post......recently started on a project to rebuild a 98 Orange P7, it’s revisiting my youth and I’m having it resprayed red like my old one, Gil (thanks to retro bike) is sorting white decals for me. Here’s the rub, wanted to XTR 950/1/2 it right up but cranks are an issue....S/H ones all...
