How to Flip a worn Cog

I bought a new SRAM 7 speed cassette a mere year ago, and already the most used cog 15T is clicking. I change chains when they stretch 1/8" to 1/4" and I'm loathe to buy another new cassette, so I'm wondering if I can flip the worn cogs. Maybe I can get another few month's pedaling out of this...

    105 Pedals for Toeclips

I'm tired of buying Wellgo cage pedals, and having to replace them every two years, so if you have any newish, or NOS, 105 pedals that will take toe-clips, I'm interested. I actually need two pairs.

    Mnemonics

Doubtless, if you're removing pedals and cranks every day and week, it comes without thinking. But spare a thought for those of us who only have to pull pedals and cranks when there's a T in the month. Pass on your fool-proof mnemonics to facile alloy thread strippers. Ta!

    NOS Steel Chainrings

My 2008 Jamis Ventura RB is still going strong after only 32,000km logged. The steel FSA 8 speed chain rings (normal compact 50/34) are now obsolete (I asked the manufacturers). They only have dural, which wear out in no time. So let me know if you have new steel replacement rings for me. Colin

    NOS Steel Chainrings

I'm a Christian missionary in SE Asia currently wearing out a 1991 Panasonic MTB with Biopace steel rings 48/38/28T. So on the lookout for replacements. I'll even take round ones if NOS. Whilst I'm here, I'll also need new steel chainrings for my Road Bike too standard FSA compact 50/34T :)...

    105 RD-5501 to replace Lx M550?

Hopefully this is not heretical; but... I'm considering replacing a worn out Lx M550 rear derailleur (It is 24 years old after all) with a 105 RD-5501 long cage. I understand the 105 works with 7 and 8 speed systems, mine is a 7 speed, 3 ring Panasonic MTB. But is an 7-8 speed chain too fat...

    Wanted: 105 32h rear hub

My entry level Jamis Ventura Sport is only seven years old, and has done 30K km, but needs a new rear hub. 130mm spacing, 8 speed SRAM cassette (fits on Shimano freehubs) I was going to get a modern Tiagra, then thought better of it. Shimano's older components definitely endure, as witnessed...

1992 Deore Lx RD parallelogram tension screw

I got terrific help here last time I asked an RD question, so let's see if you can sort this one... This is NOT about the upper and lower (Philips Hi and Lo) set screws on the rear of the RD body. Nor the "B" tension screw. It concerns a slotted screw INSIDE the parallelogram. 1992 Deore...

    Old style mechanical mileometers

New bike computers are nice accessories, especially for training, but I just can't bring myself to fit one on a 1992 bicycle. Most of you will understand why. So has anybody found a source of the old mechanical fork-mounted mileometers? One of those, coupled with my nice pocket watch, will...

Tightening up a Deore Lx Rear Derailleur

It's 1992, long cage, and still working perfectly well, but I feel the cage moves too much towards the wheel because of play at the pivot point where it attaches to the derailleur body. I've never dismantled one, so I'm wondering how that pivot is made, and can I tighten it up a little to...

    White-Lining on a Bike

Ease up coke-heads this is not for you. Both climbing and descending my local mountain TT today ( in a PBT :) ) I noticed my tyres made much less noise when I deliberately rode on the white line at the edge of the road. Presumably due to less rolling friction. So is this a useful tactic...

When to Replace a Worn BB?

It's a Shimano cartridge BB installed in a 1992 Panasonic MTB Deore Lx, it still pedals smoothly, doesn't "grind" or click, and the gears shift seamlessly front and back. (Not sure of the model BB, but it's lasted 17 years. Shimano sure don't make them like they used to!) I'm replacing the...
