Wanted Lightweight, ‘flat’ reach drop bars, 25.4mm: 3ttt, etc

I’m after some light (sub 300g) drops. Flat reach - I.E the tops go out a bit before sloping down: 3ttt Merckx style, but I’m sure there are others out there that I don’t know. Not ergo, Min 40cm width. 25.4mm clamp.

    What’s going on here…?

Don’t think this is AI slop. But how does it work? Bifurcated 😳 chainline? Suspended BB axis? Brake acts on the BB spindle? Oh, and has suspension (1890). 😎 https://www.copakeauction.com/featured-lot/c-1890-the-rochester-manufactured-by-rochester-cycle-mf-co-rochester-ny/

    Pet carrier?

What about a front basket? No way. Clean lines on this rig. Rear carrier? Absolutely not: do I look like a fool? Some sort of pack you could strap to your back? With this tailoring? Shut up and stop wriggling.

Everyday cycling incidents hall of fame.

Returned from a nice 50k, and it occurred to me that lots of the day-to-day incidents you experience as a cyclist on our roads fall into patterns. See if any of these are familiar, and feel free to add some more. #1. The Phantom. You’re cycling down a lovely narrow lane, perhaps on a national...

    1984 Andy Powell - Overbury’s - MTB

Ever since I was gifted an Andy Powell road bike about 15 years ago I’ve had a soft spot for his work - the frames are in many ways just conventional British frame building, but they do seem to ride very nicely, and rightly command a loyal following. Perhaps less conventional, was that he was...

Top tips for shill accounts …

Ask questions: “I’m looking to use brakes on my retro build: should I insist on some vees or wait for cantilevers that fit the posts to turn up?” Avoid punctuation: “I love a retrobike which is what I used to ride but of course you know that and isn’t it amazing how many bikes with pedals not...

Sold 1992 Dave Lloyd Concept 90 frameset. Fillet Brazed Reynolds 753.

Rationalising some stalled projects, so here’s a rare chance to get hold of a fabulous Dave Lloyd road frame. It’s a concept 90 which is I think one of, or the first incarnation of compact geometry in road frames. Fillet brazed by Dave in 1992 (frame number is LL92612 which tallies with...

Sold 1997 Raleigh Randonneur in Reynolds 708. Now with frameset and build options.

NOW SOLD Have been re-assessing my bike needs, and much as I love it, I’m not riding my Randonneur enough; I’d like it to go to a new home. Full bike as pictured still for sale at £500, but also as frame-set with build options. See the bottom of this post. It has many quality but discontinued...

Sorted 35mm bottom pull triple front deraileur

After a front mech with a 35mm clamp: bottom pull. Old school looks preferred, silvery, etc; suntour would be fab, but open to suggestions (e.g. campag seemed to do a lot of 35mm). Ta

Wanted Araya RM25 rims, wheels; full bike?

I’m in need of a nice set of RM25s (silver and good nick like below). Would take a wheelset, or maybe a whole bike: what about that 80s beast with the huge frame that you keep meaning to get round to - yes over there in the corner behind the sun lounger and patio heater …..

Headset harmony: 3D tech helps 80s hero.

One of my all time favourite components is a Shimano 600ex headset: beautifully over built, but with a finish that is as fragile as it is wonderful, and adorned with kooky non-standard star-shaped locking faces. They need a special tool which is often more expensive than the headset (or old...

Was looking up a nice coffee table book on Japanese bike design (‘Japanese Steel’), when I came across the pic below. What’s going on? AI goop or master technique?

Cup and cone BB race: how many balls? Room for another?

I’ve been titting around with old Cup and cone BBs (wonderfully over built things), and have a vague memory that you can remove the cage that holds the balls and add an extra one? It’s a tricky thing to Google, so anyone here know if it’s a goer before I start hacking cages and measuring balls? Ta.

    Man vs …… lemming?

This just goes to show - even on a heavy modern bike, you and your machine are more efficient than a DOGE-treated council budget (although god help us when the lemmings get wise to cycling ….)

Sorted bottom bracket shell facing tool

I’ve got a bunch of frames that need a good facing, so am going to bite the bullet. Anyone got a tool that’s gathering dust and up for grabs? Ideally a combo tap and face like the LifeLine ones, but facing is key. Looking for durable, practical and affordable not NOS campag 😀

KHS Montana Pro parts bin sh*tter

So, inspired by @Tsundere ‘s excellent Anti-theft parts bin sh*tter thread, I’m going to mess around with an old KHS bike that has been banging around in the family for a while. A change in my commuting habits means I could do with a lock up and leave bike; but the commute includes a 300m climb...
