Shoppers (oh, help me!) Warning: RSW III content!

Redirect if necessary, but they're not MTB, & they're road ridden so where should I ask? Never had any interest in 'em myself, but a Raleigh RSW III came my way last week. Seeing as the DynoHub lights still work, I thought it's at least worth a tinker to get it rideable. First problem is...

    1990? Haro Impulse Comp

I think I may have been a little dismissive of e-stays in the past so never went looking for one but when this came my way it seemed so close to original spec even down to the Ritchey force 2.0 tyres, I just had to fix it up & try it. Main problem was that the thread on the steerer was eaten...

    Un-jamming STI's?

Talking about early 90's 7 spd with 2 unequal size triggers, one above the other. When I got the project, rear shifter worked fine & still does. Front, however was unmovable. Assuming the original grease could be solid in there, I sprayed IPA cleaner & GT 85 in there & it freed up for a week or...

    headset worry

Picked up an interesting project, one of the main problems was the thread was knackered on the 1" steerer. Spare fork & headset came in the deal, no worries. Took it out for a test run & the headset loosens pretty quick. All the parts seem in the right order (tag ring between the nuts, etc) I'm...

When were MTB SPDs first available?

Sorry I haven't been around on here for a while so may have missed this important info. Just picked up a Haro Impulse, think it's a '90 model (Black, with Exage 400LX). I'm used to SPDs on my other bikes & the originals on this bike are rough; so are SPD age appropriate or should I go for some...

Raleigh Kelloggs Tour Reynolds 500, 25"

I think it was Reynolds 500 but my mate cleaned all the decals off (except Palmers- local interest!) anyway, still kind of scruffy but not very rusty. Nice fixed gear conversion for the taller gent? Headset would need replacing. £30 If you're in the Bristol area, feel free to come round &...

    Raleigh Road Ace 531C, 25"

1991? Road Ace, 531c, Gipiemme ends, surface rust (If it was a size smaller I'd strip the guides & bosses & get down www.realitymotorworks.com for a powder) Worst area is where he let moisture sit under the brake cable, see pic. 600 Tricolour headset might revive with fresh grease £60. If...

    Bontrager Privateer 1996

Original Frame etc. so well rubbed but no dings. Size L (19"). '98 Z3 light forks, XT mechs, LX rapidfires (front shifter is a bit sticky), but could include original X-rays or XT thumbies if wanted. Good chain, rings & cogs. Not ridden much recently, reluctant sale to make space/finance for...

    FS: Raleigh Royal 23" 1987

1987 Raleigh Royal Tourer 23" Lovely 531ST frame in good condition for it's year (1987). Has a couple of parking scratches but no rust! Fitted with anatomic bend bars, Trans Am saddle & 90's 105 hubbed wheels. SPD pedals. SKS mudguards, front one has light damage but works fine. Otherwise...

Unique Bristol built 531pro frame. 650/700 wheels. 22.5" centre to top, (seat tube extends above top tube, I hope you can see what I mean from the pictures) 22.5" top tube. suits around 5'10" to 6'. Many interesting design features, internal cabling, Shimano 600 canti's. Tight clearances...

    WTD: Small Road Frame

Looking for a small (48-50cm) road frame suitable for 700C fixed/ss conversion. Needn't be anything fancy, it's for my lad to try out & see what he wants to ride. Would consider complete bike, also have larger frames to p/x if interested. Pref. Bristol/N.Som area for ease of collection.

Raleigh Gemini Trail (bit like a 'cross bike ?)

I've picked up a trail/hybrid thing with 700C wheels, which just looks like it needs drop bars to be a 'cross bike. If I fit bar end shifters, & run the cables under the tape to the top, next to stem, will this cause unnecessary friction? many touring bikes I've seen with those shifters, the...

Raleigh Frame Numbers & Early Shimano Cassettes: Help?

I know these questions have been asked plenty, but I tried searching the site & TBH have to be in work soon, so help me out: Frame No. WG 9001404, does W indicate Worksop? & is the year 90 or 91? On the same bike, it's a 6spd Cassette, no lockring, but I can just see threads on the end of...

    Fonlupt: Mystery Machine.

Does anyone know anything of Cycles Fonlupt? A mate passed on this Fonlupt Equipe to me, he didn’t know any history but we’re guessing it may have arrived with a student, then suffered considerable abuse in a short time. I’m not an expert on Campagnolo but it’s got an 8sp. Mirage groupset...

    (93?) Stumpy skip find

Pulled this baby out of a skip last week, lush colour, isn't it? But what's the year? I thought about 92/93, browsing pictures & catalogues on here I haven't found another that colour. Some twonk 'updated' it with drivetrain from the fugly bin, & the Exage/Mavic wheels are probably from an older...

'86 Carlton Kermesse: Hot Rod or restore?

I've got a Carlton Kermesse which looks like it was converted to flat bars from new or close to: flat ITM bars & Weinmann brakes. It would make a nice fixie, but I've got a couple already so I'm thinking of putting it back with drops & gears. The cranks & mechs are Arabesque, I'm guessing the...

    Off Road lights

I need to get some 21st century lights (my Vista-lite's maybe too Retro now), Exposure look good to me: Any opinions? For single track pootling & some road use, is the twin unit Race Maxx sufficient or do I really need the triple Enduro Maxx? How powerful is the mid setting: ok for country...

Dawes Reynolds 500 frame & forks

Nothing fancy, in need of paint! This one is labelled 'Milk Race', but I have another frame the same which was sold as 'Horizon' & built up as a nice fg beater. Includes Weinmann side pulls & a period seatpost which I'm not sure was the original. 23" seat tube, 22.5" top tube. Plenty of...

    Varnish over transfers

Just put some waterslide transfers on a frame, the supplier (H Lloyd Cycles) recommend varnishing over for durability. It should be an oil based varnish, cellulose or acrylic will damage the transfer. Any recommendations? (spray on preferably) Or how well do they last without varnish?

    TNT Hwa Fong Daddy

I don't know much about BMX, is anybody able to give any info about this (links to catalogues/articles?): Quite a complex frame compared to other BMX I've seen: I guess early '90's, for ramps & jumping rather than racing?
