    Raleigh/Carlton quill pedal end/dust cap

I'm after a replacement dust/end cap for a Raleigh Quill pedal which was supplied with my 1978 Carlton Circuit. It is a screw-on cap with a hex top (as pictured below). Any help appreciated. I'd rather not spend the £20 inc P&P on the NOS replacements I have found from Greece. Thanks

Frame done - build now starts

My 1978 Carlton Circuit frame has just come back from Bob Jackson's looking rather spendacular. Thanks for everyone's help, in particular Robbied196. The build now starts!!!

    1977 Carlton Circuit decals

Hi I have just bought a 1978 Carlton Circuit in Polychromatic Violet. It's in a bit of a state so, like my Sun Snipe from this year, I shall be restoring it fully with a new paint job and decals. I can find a set of the correct decals except the top tube Circuit one. Does anyone have a Carlton...

    1970 Sun Snipe restoration finished

Bar the bottle cage and clamps I have finally finished my 1970 Sun Snipe restoration. Hope you like it. I can't wait to ride it at Eroica Brittania in June. Thanks to all those on the forums that have helped me, you have been invaluable.

Down to minute detail - ferrules

I have been supplied with some new, white, ribbed cable housing for my Sun Snipe restoration and it comes with some lovely shiny ferrules which look great. Unfortunately the ferrules, when attached to the ends of the cables, won't fit in the cable stops. The cable (4mm) sits snugly in the...

Huret rear derailleur and Weinmann brake lever questions

I am VERY close to finally finishing my Sun Snipe restoration but have a couple of questions about the rear derailleur and brake levers if anyone can help? The rear derailleur which I think is a Huret Eco seems to have 2 settings for the spring. Are these to do with the size of the freewheel? I...

    Wheel axle sizes

This is probably a daft question but is the axle diameter on the Sun Snipe likely to be 5/16" rather than 3/8"? New 27x1 1/4 wheelsets seem to come with 3/8" axles but the wheels I have taken off my Sun seem to be 5/16". I have measured the dropouts and they are almost 3/8" but have been...

    Wheels for Sun Snipe

The wheels I have taken off my Sun Snipe are a rear wheel which is a Rigida Chromage Superchromix and an unbranded front wheel with patterned rims. Both are in fairly good condition but clearly don't match. I have two wheels taken off a Puch Alpine. The rear is in shocking condition with the...

    New bearings needed

I have re-installed the bottom bracket from 1970 Sun Snipe but the spindle is really wobbly with a fair bit of vertical and horizontal play. Looks like I may need new bearings but there is possibility of what I have put back in is not right. The bearings that came with it are in cages but for...

    Installing fixed cup

Attached a couple of images of my Sun Snipe restoration as it is so far but I am having problems installing the fixed cup. I start screwing it in (anti-clockwise of course) but after a few threads it sticks. I am worried I am cross-threading it and don't want to damage it but I also can't get...

Huret 5 speed lever - HELP!

I dismantled my Huret 5 speed lever the other night to clean and polish it as part of my Sun Snipe restoration. I was very careful about keeping the parts in the correct order and just as I was about to finish re-assembling it I dropped it and the bits went everywhere. I put it back together in...

    Sun Snipe restoration

For those interested and for those kind people that have helped with this so far here is a picture of my Sun Snipe which has just come back from Bob Jackson having been resprayed and decals added. Also managed to find a Bluemels pump that was specced with the bike originally. Really pleased with...

    Headset and stem removal

Probably a total newbie question but can anybody help me? Having loosened the stem bolt and the headset nuts I expected the stem to come out so I could remove the forks from the frame of the Sun Snipe I am trying to restore. The stem and the forks remain resolutely inline and won't budge. I...

    Sun Snipe dating

Having recently purchased a Sun Snipe which has some terrible homemade decals (vinyl stickers!) on in order to renovate I have been trying to research into it. The wheels don't seem to match - rear is smooth rimmed and the front is pattern rimmed - but most of the parts are original as far as I...
