    JD Whisker

Cyclists of a certain age will remember and have bought stuff from JD Whisker. More recently they have been very helpful to me by sorting through their old stock to supply me with a few bits and bobs to fill some gaps in my Campagnolo Master tool kit. Now they have begun selling some older...

    Spoke length question

I’ve some Campagnolo Record hubs and Mavic GP4 rims which are destined to be built up together. Given that this particular marriage will be following a well-trodden path can anyone tell me what spoke lengths I will need? (Yes I am also too idle to work it out!) I assume that the spoke count...

What frame should I get to race?

Here in Hertfordshire we have a series of local races in the summer and I’m keen to enter at least one ‘go race’ event next year. While I’m tempted to take it as an opportunity to buy a new bike I’d like to explore the retro options first. Part of me wants to ride an older frame with newer...

What is Campagnolo tool 'G' for?

In Catalogue 18 it is the straight edge "for the alignment of the rudder pedals"! I've never had a bike with a rudder so I'm left wondering...

Good frames in auction on Thursday

http://www.clevedon-salerooms.com/sale_cat_fp_fa.aspx No idea of the provenance but a number of good retro road frames for sale as individual lots from 570 through to the end of the sale. Estimates look a bit on the low side. If I had the space it would be a hard choice but perhaps the Cinelli...

Chiltern Cycling Festival - 16 July

Anyone else going to this? I've registered for the 30 mile Amersham Classic for 'retro rides'. There is also a concors though registration on the day seems to clash with timing for the Classic so Mrs GLP might have to be roped in to register me.

Spokes - looking for a supplier

I'm about to build a pair of wheels and looking for recommendations for suppliers for the spokes. Looking at Sapim or DT (Race or Competition double butted, stainless). (Mavic GP4 rims and Campagnolo Record hubs, if you are interested.)

Chiltern Festival - am I the only one confused?

I seem to be unable to find my way round their website. Half the time I'm looking at their plans for last year and it seems pretty unclear about Amersham or Chenies in 2016. Are they both going ahead, if so when?

    Bargains

Thought I'd start a bargains thread. Add yours here... I'll start with SIS energy gels - buy 2 in Waitrose and get one free at the moment. £1.20 for one so 80p each if you buy three.

    Please add your Location

If more folk said (roughly) where they are located then I think that: a) we'd see more informal ride-outs happening; and b) more practical assistance being offered. Or am I just being delusional?

    Fab video

I'm normally on the road bike section but I thought this brilliant video was more suitable for a MTB audience. http://youtu.be/u3uPZZQVoCg

    Xenon

I see that xenon is to be banned though WADA don't have a test for it ... yet. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-28970855 To judge from the article, holding your breath and training at altitude will be next on the list!

Who is going to the Chiltern Cycling Festival on 13 July

I'll be riding my Team Pro in the Chiltern Cycling Festival on 13 July - say 'hi' if you see me. As well as the matching team shirt I'll be wearing other contemporary kit. Entries online close on Friday so get yours in. http://chilterncyclingfestival.com Proper shakedown ride last Sunday -...

Gear ratios and hills and vintage gears and getting older

In the "Eroica Britannia this weekend" thread I was in danger of veering off into the exciting topic of gear ratios and said I'd start a new thread: I'm quite fond of hills. We've got one nearby that touches 22% which gives a chap a feeling of achievement (and causes my old 16 spoke wheels to...

    Spotted

We don't seem to have a "spotted" forum for road bikes so here's a thread instead. To get things started - spotted today in New Bond Street (London) around 18:30 a very nice, dark red/ally, Vitus looking immaculate and being capably ridden by a gent in team colours that I didn't catch due to...

    Where has RBoTM gone

I voted and now it has gone. This seemed rather a quiet month after all of the recent debate, was it taken down?

Possible Raleigh SB lo-pro sleeper on eBay?

I'd be bidding on this if SWMBO hadn't warned me off. Looks like an SB frame to me (rather later than mine with the hallmark oversized seat stay caps and painted with a stick but retaining a Raleigh head badge) but the seller hasn't replied to the frame number question I asked at midnight...

To polish or not - Raleigh head badge?

I've posted this Q in my build thread in Readers Bikes but that seems to garner a different group of RBers so asking here too. The very last step in my current built will be nailing on the Raleigh badge to the head tube. (Though I dare say an engineer would describe it as 'rivet'.) The badge in...

Have you noticed how high Campagnolo prices are on eBay?

Is it me or are prices fetched at auction very high at the moment? I'm only looking at 1970s stuff just now but I'd be happy to pay prices at the now that I'd have thought way too high before Christmas. Lots of people must be finishing their winter builds.

    Disappointing cycle specific products?

Did you ever buy something that was marketed specifically for bikes or cyclists and feel a bit disappointed when you used it? I bought this grease a while back from my LBS. It seemed thin and after the first ride I noticed that quite a lot of it had blown out of the headset and back along the...
