    Building a commuter

Now I have a nice steel frame I am turing into this summers commuter, but am I better sticking the rather pedestrian 7 speed STX gear back onto this, or moving the 8 speed LX / XT stuff off the Balance FS550 I just picked up. but will not see action ant ti9me soon due to the rather unfortunate...

How do I tell what wheel size for a frame?

Obtained a mystery frame the other day, and was wondering if there is a 'rule of thumb' measurement from the dropouts to the brake mounting holes on the fork or seatstays to determine correct wheel size? I'm figuring that chainstay length would vary with wheelbase, so that wouldn't work. This...

    Happy New Year Retrobikers

Happy new years you lot. Now spill the beans on your new years resolutions. I figure youv'e got 8 to 10 hours to think of something good! Me, well I'm going to try to spend more time on two wheels rather than four. Don't reckon I'll do any good, but hey, isn't that what NY resolutions are all...

Tell me I don't want a Bianchi Lynx.....

There is a mid-90's Bianchi Lynx local to me on a popular, though un-loved on line auction site. Despite the brand, it looks ike a POS. Was the Bianchi brand prostituted? Why isn't it Celeste? I think I'll pass on this one..... FYI: 130275740598

Just cloned the HD to a bigger one, and now everytime I visit Retrobike, I have to log in again. Yes, I tick the box, but it doesn't work. Someone please help with what settings I've munged here to make it work nice again. I have searched earlier posts about this, and have cleared the cache &...

    GT ID Q.

Popped around to see the parents last night. " Found an old bike of yours in the back shed, want to take it home?" Out rolls a rigid steel GT. Crude grey paint job. Further investigation (read scraping with a blade!) finds it white underneath. Must have been sanded before the re-spray, no...

Le Tour, A query on modern frame construction materials.

Thought I'd drop this in 'off topic' as this is about modern road bikes. After watching a few stages of the Tour, I cannot help think that there has been a ban placed on the use of any ferrous material in modern bicycle constuction. After all the fuss over compact frame designs, with the...

    LTS rear linkage question

I thought whilst we are amongst a GT feeding frenzy at the moment, I would pose this question. On the later style trunion mount, does the position of the 'travel chip' (at least that is what I think it is called), have any bearing on the amount of rear wheel travel. You can set them with the...

    LTS & RTS

Just jumping on the GT bandwagon here. My retro rides are usually 'as found'. One day I might put some effort in, but it only takes away from the few times I get to ride.....

    wanted: Marzocchi fork crown "EGS"

Bought a RTS3, was fitted with a Marzocchi EGS. Crown is cracked where it clamps the left staunchion. Any ideas on a substitute? Is originally 180mm aheadset, but I can work with 1 1/8 threaded also. Dates back from about '94. I would use one of the other fork crown from various manufacturers I...

Please explain to me a 'pub bike'?

I see so many references to a pub bike. Is it OK to ride a bike whilst p15sed in the UK? In Australia, you can get busted for drink-driving riding a bike, a horse, or even a ride-on mower.

I hate you all.... (GT content)

Bid & won a GT RTS3. Damn if it wasn't the last hundred bucks I own (about 45 Sterling in your speak). Somehow I feel that cheese sandwiches all next week will be small compensation for a buddy for my LTS... Never would have been in this situation if it hadn't been for RetroBike!

    DBR Axis ?1996

Not strictly retro, all except frame, forks and wheels have been changed over the years. I changed the brakes & drivetrain to M950, and the big & heavy DH riser bars to some flatties I had lying around. Let me know if you need to know any specifics!

Greetings from the land of OZ!

Hi all, thought it was time I intoduced myself here! Was pleasantly surprised to find RetroBike and be assured that despite what the magazines, & guys at the LBS suggest, it's OK not to ride something that appears to be the landing gear from a 747. My current stable includes a '98 GT LTS4000...
