    Viking Ian Steel

Had this bike since I was a teenager and it was 25-30 years old then. It was resprayed/restored in the 1980's, then I stopped using it after Uni. It's been hanging around dismantled for about 25 years, but after restoring several Retro MTB's. I thought it was time to get a classic steel bike...

    M525 Pedals Bearing size?

Anybody know the correct size for the bearing in a M525 pedal? I can only find a exploded diagram of a M520 which says 3/32" and the spindle looks the same, but I'm not convinced. http://www.shimano.com/media/techdocs/c ... 608614.pdf

    92 Eldridge grade Seatpost Diameter

Finally getting my 92 Marin Eldridge grade Winter hack (Summer been and gone hasn't it) sorted. Bought the frame with the seatpost stuck and cut off, so had to melt it out with caustic soda. Can anybody confirm the correct Seatpost diameter? I had the Vernier on it and I think it's 26.4, but...

    Modern "retro" tyres

I've got original panaracer smoke/dart and I've also got the modern reissues. However the modern versions are just like the originals i.e. useless compared with modern tyres. So what I'm after is recommendations for modern tyres (tubeless) which still look retro.

Bucks Off Road Sportive Sunday 15th May.

Sorry Blatant plug, but next week is the Bucks Off Road Sportive, As course setter, I can tell you that every km has been ridden my yours truly on my trusty Orange Clockwork, so it's retro friendly. Its a friendly event run by a local Cycling club, and starts inside the M25 (near Rickmansworth)...

Wheelset - Black, Black I say

Looking for a cheap wheelset for a winter ride. Would prefer DX or LX hubs, but Deore, Exage 400/500 or STX would do, not to bothered about rim make. But importantly rims and hubs must be black. Would be nice to get black spokes as well but very unlikely, so silver will suffice. Just remember...

Black Park Night Race. 17th October

I hope the Mods don't mind me posting this. October 17th sees the 5th running of the Night of the Knobbly Tread race at Black Park (South Bucks/Berks). We don't have many mountains in this part of the UK, but it's fast and furious racing through the forest in the dark. The technical obstacles...

    Car boot sales

Are car boot sales any good for finding retrobikes or parts? There is a large one local to me every Saturday and I wonder if its worth paying it a visit. I'm not expecting to find a NOS Klein for £20, I'm more after unlovely and unloved bikes which may have the odd few decent components on them...

Doing the whole South Downs way tomorrow (Saturday 19th) with some mates, the plan was originally to do it on my modern Titanium hardtail, but checking tonight and the BB has had it. ahead stem on threaded steerer.

The thread steerer on my Manitos is about 2.5 inches too long to use with a threaded headset, but would be the ideal length for an ahead stem. Is it safe to use a ahead stem to clamp the steer on the threads (I'd probably use a hope head doctor expander rather than a star nut), or is this...

    Pace Elastomers

Sure this must have been asked before, but didn't fancy trawling through 54 pages of search responses. Is there recommended rider/bike weights for soft, medium and hard compound elastomers?
