Wildgrippers ... attached to a Fire Mountain & Hahanna

You know when you're skipping through eBay and then something jumps out. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kona-Fire-Mo ... SwHeVf1l86 A pair of very dry Wildgrippers in I guess what was Biscuit or Butterscotch (colourblind) attached to a small Fire Mountain. If they were closer I'd be tempted to see...

    My Bouncy Bikes

I spend more time fussing about my Kona's but these two are under appreciated in the garage. The Marin is a real workhorse that has required hardly any fettling and just works. The Cannondale was gifted to my son by a generous neighbour as he knew we'd look after it. It's a great bike but the...

Bargain Gary Fisher ... which I didn't actually 'need'

... but then do any of us actually need another retro MTB. I saw Gary (as he's now known) on eBay and my £75 cheeky bid to collect now was accepted. I did have an evil plan to use him as a donor for my '95 Explosif as the SRT800s, SUP-217s on XT hubs are in much, much better condition than the...

StRumpjumper ... you read in right !

Yes the StRumpjumper is the little known badly spelt version of the Stumpy. It's in my favourite colour with XTR bits, wigglely spokes, over-priced (IMHO) and a touch small for me. For some reason black paint around the seat tube which I'd guess is evidence of an alloy post glued into chromoly...

    92 Lava Dome - can't decide

Hidden under the rattle can paint job and my bad attempt to make her look like a '95 Cinder Cone is my original '92 Lava Dome. Currently weighing up the original vs personalised. Watch this space....

Respect to the '95 Cindercone @ The Look Out this weekend

@ Bracknell's "The Look Out" this weekend with the wife, kids and dog. Wifey kept moaning at me for checking out all the new carbon full bounce rides that were on show. But the coolest bike by far was some bloke with his 'used' '95 Cindercone and his kids riding Islabikes. That blue is...

n00b chain dropping to granny cog question....

I think I know the answer, but I'm too lazy/tried to check... so: I've recently been riding a cheap SingleTrack 930 I got off ebay. When I'm in the middle ring and a low gear for a hill when I put hill climbing presure on it slips to the granny cog. what do i need: new chain? set up...

92 Lava Dome ... slowly getting back some pride

Between 1996 & 2010 MY '92 Lava Dome had mud guards fitted, a cushioned seat, a padlock coiled round her seat post and fitted with a bell. I found her underneath my ex-B-in-Law's lawnmower, roof box & ladders - him being the guilty party for 14 years of neglect etc. She's since been stripped and...

Rock Shox Jett - any good

I'm looking to build up a 1998 Kona Caldera frame fairly cheaply. Cheapest way seemed to be buy a donor spares/repair Trek 930. By chance the 99 930 comes with Rock Shox Jett FS hence the question - are these any good? .... I realise there's absolutely no logic to what I'm doing because...

Guilty of neglect to a Pug

Wedged between the garage wall & my also neglected 1980 Triumph Spitfire is my Peugeot Triathlon which I bought from the owner of the bike shop in Gerrards Cross in 19??. He'd used it as his bike but for some reason liked the original pearl white. I ofcourse knew better and with the assistance...

    Polishing cranks and other stuff?

the Lava Dome is stripped of all but the BB & headset. Whilst I try to decide the colour for the frame I want to clean up the bits going back on. So is it possible to polish up to a near mirror finish the alloy cranks? If so then any advice on products, tools or technique would be appreciated...

Did '93 Kona still have 1" steerers?

this post on ebay made me think ... plus strange way to advertise a Kona frame as an extra to the Project 2s ! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Retro-KONA-Joe-Mu ... 2c57bc5ba2

Newbie Kona/Specialized intro - now with Pics

I've lurked for a while, but as I'm taking on a Lava Dome rebuild I thought it was time to register. The bikes.... It started with "Levi" my Peugeot Triathlon called Levi because of the 501 tubing - unriden for years. In early '95 I bought a second hand Lava Dome - guessing '91 or 92'...
