Bike ID - 90's Scottish frame builder?

I just picked this bike up off eBay for my girlfriend. The seller said it was handmade in the 90's by a Scottish frame builder but couldn't tell me much more than that except it is made from Reynolds 531 (which I believe because it's pretty light). I can't find a serial number but it's been...

    Ladies touring bikes?

Anybody got any ideas one proper touring bikes in women's sizes? My girlfriend has decided he wants a touring bike, something vintage. I thought it would be easy, just grab her an old Dawes Galaxy or something in the correct size frame - 19.5"/50cm. Turns out most touring bikes only seem to go...

    1994 Marin Bear Valley SE - £50

Having a clear out and this one has been in storage for a while. It's not complete but mostly here and all the important bits are rust free. It has an 18" frame with good paint, rust free frame, decals aren't brilliant as can be seen in the photos. Mainly it needs a good clean up and service, I...

    Eroica Britannia leaves Bakewell

Some of you guys probably received this email today too. Apparently they've moved the festival to some hamlet called Friden which is further south. Honestly can't think what the logic behind this was, the hospitality of Bakewell was half the fun for me. Moving to a hamlet presumably with little...

Early Raleigh Lenton Sports artwork - Free download

Whilst restoring my 1946 Raleigh Lenton Sports I couldn't find this artwork anywhere and ended up having to make it up myself. It's based on what little remained of it on my frame and a couple of photos I found on the internet. I'm putting it online to save other people the hassle. I found that...

Paint matching and decal printer in London?

Hi guys I've got a frame with very little original paint on it (just the back of the head badge). Anybody know a good place in London to match it up? A place in the Sheffield/Chesterfield area would also suffice. I'm also in need of a place to print out a decal I've got on my computer...

Raleigh BB Push fit grease nipple

Just removed the grease nipple from my '47 Raleigh Lenton Sports. It was seized and got quite chewed up in the process so needs replacing. Anybody have a spare or know where I can get one? Will post a photo asap of the mangled one.

Tips/advice: Just bought a 1947 Raleigh Lenton Sports

Not been on here since somebody "borrowed" my Claud Butler. Finally back in the game and just got myself this rusty 1947 Raleigh Lenton Sports which I want to have fixed up in time for Eroica Britannia in the summer. Other than being in bad shape it looks largely original, even has a copy of...

Stolen: Red 1984 Claud Butler Dalesman

Hi guys please keep an eye out for a battered old red Claud Butler Dalesman in the Brighton area. It had loads of paint missing off the frame, no mudguards and Mavic A319 wheels with a Shimano DH-3N80 dynamo hub on the front. It also had security wheels nuts and an old Specialized Hardlock...

    Modern light on old bikes

Quick question, what do people use to attach modern lights to this type of bracket? I want to attach a Lumotec or some other modern dynamo powered light to it but can't find anything for the job. My fork crown is really tight and won't accomodate a light bracket.

    Why I hate my bike

Why I hate my bike An essay by Stephen Hulley I hate my 84 CB Dalesman lately. The brakes are rubbish. I upgraded to Shimano 105 Golden Arrows but they're rubbish too. They don't stop the bike, they just bend. I almost went into the back of a lorry the other day. The headset has no sweet spot...

    7 speed thumb shifters

I'm after some 7 speed thumb shifters to put on a touring bike so the brackets will need to have a little flex in the brackets. Preferably friction left and indexed right and suiting the style of an 80's bike. Let me know what you have.

    Karma 700c wheel and tyre

These came on a project bike and I have no use for them. Priority will go to whoever can collect. Conti Top Touring 2000 Tyre with reasonable tread left, 700c. Sidewall says 28 x 1-3/8 x 1-5/8. Shimano Parallax HB-MC12 hub with Araya 700c PX-645 rim. Rim seems quite worn but true, hub seems...

    Cheap old touring bike please

My bro's birthday is coming up and he's thinking of trying out a bit of cycling so I'd like to get him a bike. Nothing fancy because he lives in London and can't keep it inside. I'd like him to be able to come on cycling holidays with me too. Just some cheap old tourer, doesn't need to be fancy...

    Single pivot brakes

Need some single pivot side pulls with a recessed bolt fitting. Reach has to be 55mm. Was thinking about some Shimano 600's maybe. Something suitably retro for a CB Dalesman. £20-30?

    Dual pivot brakes hitting mudguard

I've had my frame drilled to take a recessed bolt so I could fit dual pivot side pulls, but now the brakes are pressing against the mudguard. Any suggestions or can I only use single pivot brakes? All dual pivots that I look at seem to dip in the middle below the brake mount. Here's a pic

    1984 Claud Butler Dalesman restoration

Thought I'd post up a few pics of my ongoing resto. I bought the bike off eBay without seeing it and thought from the photos that the frame needed a dent filling followed by a touch up to the paint. Other than that I assumed a rack and mudguards would finish it off nicely. Tbh if I'd realised...

    Dynohub bargain

Hi guys Basically this shops selling Shimano's top-of-the-range DH-3N80 (approx £100 on it's own) built into a 700c Mavic A319 wheel for £72 delivered. I found it a while ago but I was broke at the time, looked again for it last week and it's gone, but I had it saved in my favourites and the...

Not sure about this work I've had done on my bike

Hi guys I took my 1984 CB Dalesman frame in to have some dents and other problems sorted ahead of a full restoration. I also asked the chap to drill the chainstay bridge so I could fit my GB mudguards properly. When I got the frame back it hole seems to have been drilled at an angle for some...
