    GT Avalanche 3.0

Hi folks, I am the proud(ish) owner of a GT Avalanche 3.0 frame and bits. Purchased "by accident" off of that there ebay The frame is (I found out after buying it D'oh!) Disc-brake only, ie no lugs/bosses for canti or V-brakes... Saving grace, it is quite pretty (aren't almost all GT's?) And I...

Possibly stupid Quesstion, re. seatposts, clamps etc..

Now this might seem a bit of a dim query. But how best to tell which dia seatpost to get for an older MTB (or even road) frame. And which size clamp? I have a digital caliper thing. Do I subtract a certain amount from the id of the seat-tube? (And how do I edit my horrible spelling in the title?)

And another thing.. Swap possible? Raleigh Tourer vs MTB

I have a nearly nice Raleigh Routier. (complete, fully serviced, new cables, chain etc, might (see other posts) need a different rear wheel. I need a reasonable MTB (frameset) for a petite person (she is approx 5' 2") Anyone?

    Raleigh Routier..

I have asked before, but I am still not sure. I have this Raleigh "Routier" I know that it is not and never was a classic, or even a good bicycle. But.. It is now all nice and proper and ready to roll. Except..The back wheel kicks out, whenever I put any "power" down. I have tightened the QR's...

    How to explain?

Now here's a thing.. I have a friend (don't we all?) who asked, "You know about bikes, could you fix this puncture?" I asked her if it had QR's, so I could simply take the wheel. "I don't know". I was near her home in my van, and with a little shuffling I reasoned that I could simply throw it in...

    Just me?

  What a lovely day! Not too hot, just pleasant.. A perfect day to go out for a ride. I am the proud(ish) owner of approx seven bicycles. NOT ONE of them is in a rideable condition. (shed/garage full of "projects") Just me then?

    Carbon steerer; advice needed

The short version: I have a 2001 Giant with a 1" carbon steerer. I have pushed the expander-plug-thingy down too far. How do I get it out? Long version may follow... Although, my last query re. this bike and a similar headset issue recieved 70-ish views, and not one single reply.. :( :(

Giant TCR ONCE 2001, advice needed

Hi Guys I am the "proud" owner of this rescue puppy.... Like all rescue dogs it is costing me more than a new one, but hey, it is a delight to ride, and we all need a hobby... Anyhoo. The headset is tbh, and to use the technical terminology, banjaxed. It think what is on there is the original...

Help please! Derailleur shares drop out 1980's Raleigh

I have recently put together a skip-find Raleigh Routier.. All pretty good so far. But. The derailleur hanger "shares" the rear drop-out, this seems not to allow enough room for the wheel to sit properly and securely in, and so when I apply pressure on the pedals, the wheel shifts to rub against...

Raleigh Catalogue/spec sheets, 1988 (?) in "Routier" Please.

Hi folks! does anyone have a scan of late 1980's Raleigh catalogues or spec sheets showing details of the "Routier" model please? I have searched in all the usual places. There was one on here, http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... 3#p2260773but Photobucket has made it unavailable for...

    BB "adjustable"

Would I be right in my guess, that a bike from mid-eighties with an "adjustable" BB with a spindle/axle length of 124mm would originally have had a triple crankset? It is a Raleigh "Routier". O! hi folks BTW, long time I know... Just that my postie turned up with a skip-find...

    Campagnolo spares catalogues... 1997-2016

Hi guys, I was up too early this AM and did a bit of nerdy-geekery. I found and downloaded the complete Campagnolo spares catalogues from 1997-2016.. :D If they are of any use, post here and I will drop-box them, or PM me... Also if John or any mods/admins would like them for the "archive"...

    93 stumpy....

I have decided to have the poor wee beastie done up proper. A stupid decision by any rational measure, but well.. (I'm like an old lady who can't walk past a donkey or a kitten) But I am still conflicted. Are those saddles ever available for less than one would pay to release one's own child...

    Noob Q.. Headsets...

Hi guys, as some of you know I am 100% noob at old MTB's. My latest acquisition is almost ready to visit stripper/painter. But the nice chromey headset "collars" at top and bottom of the steerer-tube, and the one on the fork.. How do they come off? Should they be free and loose? And if they are...

    A happy accident..

I am contracted to work Saturdays. I deliver parcels. I bloody hate it. I was in an especially bad mood yesterday, and was delivering a parcel. As I arrived at an address, the corner of my eye spotted some bike parts in a pick-up truck... So when delivering the parcel, I asked the lady "Do you...
