Any love for the old Carrera’s here?

There aren't many Carreras in Canada, but I found this one for next to nothing locally. Hardly vintage, I know. Original owner was from the UK and had shipped it over when he moved here. I bought it entirely for the beautiful set of Hope M4's on it (set up with the rear lever on the left). I...

90s Fox Vanilla R refurb for Mount Vision

Thanks for posting the source of that seal kit! I'd looked a while back and nothing came up in my search. That company looks like a great resource. The shock is looking great so far!

    Specialized sworks epic m5

I've always liked those satin black frames, it should be a sweet bike. Good call on the M970 stuff. I ran a SRAM XO groupset on a Titus RacerX and couldn't get used to the feel after using Shimano forever. The M972 rear mech with the carbon plates I have on my Tracer is shockingly light...

    6 pin bottom bracket tool?

I ended up using a Park pin spanner on my Syncros BB. It worked well enough to snug it down, but I wouldn't say it's torqued to spec.

Maybe a White Brothers Hardbody cartridge?

    Slow downshifts?

Is it a clutched rear derailleur? Slow downshifts could mean the clutch mechanism needs cleaning. I'm not that familiar with them, but that's what happened on my fatbike. Weird that it would only be noticeable after a wheel swap, but maybe the gear change exacerbated an underlying issue.

    Extralite F2

I forgot these bikes existed, and I'm fond of FSR-style frames. Very cool build!

    All things Canadian.....

Someone commented on my early Cove G-Spot in this thread. This is first I've seen for sale in as long as I can remember: https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/4098360/

    Which full suss for singlespeed?

They are nice - I had one for a few years. It felt livelier than I expected from a basic steel soft tail.

That's the most interesting modern bike I've seen in a LONG time! The want is strong.

Canadian Winter is on it's way.

I rarely commute on my (fat)bike in winter, but I can relate. The depth of cold you folks get on the prairies is impressive and far worse than we get on the east coast. I lived in Edmonton for a while and it was no fun to ride when it was -40C. Good luck with the car!

    Dekerf Team SL build

The joints around the BB aren't fillet brazed, are they? They look like welds, and if so, they're a lot cleaner on your frame than on my Implant. I was surprised at how rough they looked given DeKerf's reputation. Is it sacrilegious to say that out loud?

The Rockhopper has changed somewhat in 20years

A '95 Rockhopper (in red/white) was my first properly good mountain bike. I still know where that bike lives and its current owner promised to sell it back to me when he's done with it.

    Which full suss for singlespeed?

Another vote for a Trek Y here. I have one setup weight weenie (~22 lbs) and one set up for trails with a 5" travel Z1 and beefier tires. Both are fun and comfortable to ride and both have lockout rear shocks, which makes road work easier.

    INTENSE M1 REAR BRAKE again

I hadn't noticed how slim the chainstays were - they're much closer to my Tracer than M1, but it's interesting how your wheel attaches via the chainstay, not the seatstay. I guess they hadn't adopted the FSR style Horst link at that point. My Tracer had the Uzzi link installed in this picture...

    INTENSE M1 REAR BRAKE again

The seatstay looks completely different on your frame than on my later model (2000). It's cool that NSB is interested. That probably means they have some passionate techs there that care about historical DH stuff. 20250129_195926 by Rented Mule, on Flickr (note that the brake setup pictured...
