IME canti brakes are all the same. It's about set up and pad quality. There is nothing objective that makes an xtr brake arm work better than stx, ritchey or any other. Older geometry adjusts different than compact but that's it. As for v brakes, again ime they waste the rim walls faster...

Maybe a grey specialized saddle, the one designed by Potts which preceded the wtb sst. It's sought after and hard to find.

This is it. Btw lower the straddle on the rear cause its too high. Braking will feel so much better you will forget seatstay flex. There is a hole in the fork so you can mount a cable hanger there. It's a special hanger but easy to findo on the web. No need for v brakes: well set cantis brake...

Man.... these are great frames. The tange fork is good and i have one but the specialized rigid fork is a bit better and it clears a bigger tire. The new paint makes me forget about the fork and enjoy the bike. I would go w/ another stem because this one is said to be too flexy.

What's the late 90s steel frame of choice?

Late 90s you could still buy handmade by cyclists in the usa w high end steel frames. I am not saying its better than high end taiwan made but it sure was a vibe to call Ibis and buy direct or chose the color scheme from IF .

Genius. Its been around and used on road bikes. Flexy if you are mashing the pedals, sprinting or descending rough terrain.

    Early Bontrager Race Lite

Early Bontrager race lites are not corrected for the fork i saw in pictures. Problem is not even taste: it will not handle well. If you want a hardtail w/100mm of suspension dont build an early 90s classic frame. That is a very small frame, suited for 1m 65cm at max.
